hey guys i was wondering if anyone could help me out on this. i was wondering if there was a special resin that was used to repair surfboards. i have reglassed one of my boards in one section and the resin is like brown ish. is there a perfectly clear one?

    short answer, yes.

what type of resin did you use? What kind of board do you have? The resin will differ depending on epoxy/polyester/whatever else they make now.

This is what i use for regular polyester/foam boards http://www.foamez.com/sanding-resin-gallon-p-340.html , but you can usually find small quantities of what you need at your local shop.

For polyester there is also a difference between sanding resin (link above), and laminating resin. Laminating resin is used when you are doing multiple coats, so that you will not have to sand between the coats, as it remains tacky. Although neither of these would have turned brown, unless something went horribly wrong hahah.

might be amine blush and there are many possible reasons for it. Ambient temperatures, humidity, moisture, contamination, the type of resin used (some are more prone than others) the list goes on. What kind of epoxy or poly resin did you use?

    Polyester or Epoxy?

Resin Research Epoxy is clear, I use that for all my glassing, it's perfectly clear.

what did you use to reglass the other sections?

here is an example of one of my crappy boards, i found it adrift about 2 miles offshore, north of puerto rico during a big swell. You could grab the back fin and lift up the entire back 3 feet of glass it was so badly delaminated... nice yellow/brown color to the foam too!

i wouldnt even deal with mixing the catalyst and poly. Get the Ding All with the yellow label. All you do is apply and set it in the sun for 10 minutes and your ready to sand.
