Xgen70/OP...you're a day late and a dorrar short. This ain't news, and this all started a while ago. What's your point? The forum's done. If anything, I would say in the most vitriolic of times, this place was Right leaning. Anybody(myself included) saying anything againe-st the most orange of cheetos would be shat slang with rightie of terms, ie/Archy's incessant use of cuck. And I ain't got no politico affiliation, I'm a free thinking American and I don't like oligarchs.
You moron....the 1st amendment applies ONLY to free speech and government retaliation. GOVERNMENT retaliation, nothing else. SI can pick and choose as they please--it is private, non government. You failed civics, moron. Having said that,...welcome aboard, we are all morons on this bus. You just passed moronocy with flying colors. Smile, you are on candid camera!!
XGen70 is, by everything I've seen and read, a highly-respected member of the Delmarva surfing community. What if XGen 70 were Ben Gravy, Brett Barley or Rob Kelly? Would Swell Info censor their opinions if they were contrary to their own? Regardless, Sheldonne is correct. I think most of us are slightly left or right of center, with our extremist buddies (ok Archy) tend to be the minority fringe. And I think I speak for the majority when I say that I'm sick and tired of all the politics on this here surf predicting website. I can go to any other media publication in the country to find people whining about Cheeto and Hildabeast. I don't come here for that crap, #time's up to give it a rest. It's also time for site administrators to realize that silencing people with differing opinions is the textbook definition of "fascism".
The problem is that at least once a week someone creates a new account and creates a thread with a political buzzword title and far-right content and around we go again. If the thread is deleted does it = fascism? How about when those same people try to de-rail a thread like the "winter gear" thread? Some dumbass got on there and said "those prices are liberal" trying to stir the pot or something idk. If a thread gets locked because someone makes it political does that = fascism? I'm not trying to be snarky. I agree with everything you said in the last 2 posts. What if, and bear with me here, SI deletes all political threads under "all discussions", and if a thread goes political, it's immediately locked regardless of which way it swings.
Yeah I agree, it works both ways. It a slippery slope for sure. I believe that the site has a great set of existing rules that outline very well the guidelines for censure and banishment. Anything beyond those guidelines seems downright Orwellian, including politics. Some of the most political contributors, on both sides of the aisle, have largely quieted down and taken a back seat during the latest attempts to derail threads with political jabs. I believe that the majority of contributors have had enough since the elections, while a few sporadic trolls are obviously bored and try to stir up crap with the biggest troll spoon they can grab. So, I see positive signs that Swellies are doing a much better job of policing themselves. I also thought that the forum was dying, but the post-Austin period has been livening up a bit without much of the political poison that contributed to this place circling the bowl. That being said, it's important for everyone to remember that Swell Info is not FB, and doesn't have billions of $$$ to back it up while they purge entities they deem as "fake" lol. Swell Info needs clicks because they equal $$$. If those clicks are caused by political trolls and much hand wringing, "so what?". It generates interest, which generates clicks, which generates revenue...bottom line. In other words, Swell Info administrators shoot themselves in the foot every time they ghost crap. They literally flush money down the toilet every time they shut stuff down. One needs to look no further than the demise of the Austin era for proof.
As I've stated before, this forum is an older product of social media and therefore tends to be the domain of older contributors. Older people tend to be more conservative. Therefore, SI will tend to have more contributors who lean to the conservative side. This statement has been proven ad nauseum. But it doesn't mean that we can't all get along and play a bit nicer, without going full Sofa King on being politically correct. Seriously, if I check out a forum and I don't like the banter between contributors, *I look for another venue which suits me better*. Don't like NYT or WaPo? Go to Fox or Breitbart. Or Reuters. Or USAToday. Or something. Personally, I don't believe in going to some circle jerk echo chamber just so I can get my daily dose of bias confirmation.
Funny story. My kid came home from school last week and said that a teacher set up a booth in front of the school asking kids to sign a pledge that they will stop saying the word retarded. He asked me what I thought and as you can imagine I told him the entire idea was retarded.
Right on Chavez! Down with the followers. Rugged individualism is what made this country great. Surfing is the most American of sports.
is this tongue in cheek? it doesn't seem par for your course as most of your posts seem to lean towards collectivism cheerio!
It used to be. Now it is the sport of queers, evidenced by everyone surfing closely in groups, circle jerking.
How Facebook – the Wal-Mart of the internet – dismantled online subcultures Before the internet, people interested in body modification – not just tattoo and piercing enthusiasts, but those drawn to more unusual practices like ear pointing, tongue splitting, suspension, scarification and the voluntary amputation of limbs and organs – had a difficult time meeting others who shared their interests. The internet, of course, changed everything: You can chat and connect with anyone from your computer. And in 1994 – more than a decade before Facebook launched – body modification enthusiasts started their own social media platform: the Body Modification E-zine, or BME. http://theconversation.com/how-face...-internet-dismantled-online-subcultures-71536
