Bruh, lemme tell you something nearly nobody else told you about. The actual cameras. Now, if you're short on money, I would go for the Hero 3+, Silver edition, it's not too bad, but the Hero 3+ Black edition is better if you can shell out a few extra bucks. The Hero 3 black editions and silver editions are a waste since they cost the same amount as the 3+ editions. The white version is pretty crappy. It's definitely worth it get a silver/black instead. Now, you could wait for the Hero 4... Which is supposed to come out in March. Mounts are up to you and your lifestyle, First off you're gonna need a Floaty Backdoor, no matter what. Another good one I use all the time is "The Bobber" (which is basically like a handle that floats) You can get mounts a lot cheaper on ebay and amazon, just be weary of the quality of the mounts. I saved like $100-200 just from getting off brand mounts on ebay as opposed to gopro made mounts. Happy Goproin
thanks for advice everyone. and thank you hawkheart, I def need some boards, but I have wanted something like this for a while and I plan on getting shots of reef life and fish, moray eels, turtles, bikinis, etc and maybe some spearfishing shots, definitely some waimea shorepound come season and some footage of tubes and people in tubes and first hand views of tubes like George greenough's crystal voyager. I also want to get some duckdive shots to show the 'fingers' of turbulence and how you can see them and try and swim or maneuver away from them. I dont know if I will be able to capture that, but I might try. The good sandbar forms late January, so we will see. Nothing crazy big, but around one human high give or take a few feet. the floating handle sounds neat, small and effective.
I bought the top of the line goPro a year ago. Biggest waste of money ever. Gave it to my grom and he doesn't use it either. For surf pictures you'd be much better off with one of these: https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...&sa=X&ei=QhAcVKT6DYavyATR3oCQAw&ved=0CLYBELkk so you can get shots like these:
The rep came into our shop a few months ago and said they made a camera that shoots in 4000 (1080 is usually the highest I think), just because they could. One of the tv companies had to build a tv capable of showing it in such high resolution. He said after about 5 minutes he was dizzy and felt sick cause it looked like it was in 3d. I'd agree to wait for whatever is next. He also mentioned the mounts/accessories are only going to be geared for the 3+ and above from here on out, so just a heads up. You could run into an issue down the road with that if you get an older one.
Yeah, sure it's not for surfing... "you aint gots da lie Craig!" Here's a suggestion, mount it so far up your arse you can find out where you put your head. Or better yet, mount it on your back so you can get a good POV of your boyfriend making you squeal like a pig!
"EveryTIME I come in the kitchen, you in the kitchen. In the GODDAMN refrigerator! Eatin' all the food! All the chicken... all the pig feet... all the collard greens... all the hog maws... I wanna eat some of them chitlins'! I love pig FEET!"
I own a Gopro and I really like having the option to film or not. I thought I'd try bringing it out during big barreling days since thats usually the money shot with Gopros but instead I use it mainly for small days. I am uploading an edit I did of a small day in southern NC onto youtube. I'll post it when I'm done. Oh yea, the video is mainly of me but the notorious Trevolution can be seen in various spots. He was my roommate hahaha. Total goon. Miss ya trev!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvwFxLBvTpw I don't spend a lot of time editing so every time is an experiment. I wanted to check out the slo-mo for once on their editor since I can't figure it out on iMovie.
one of my buddy's friends made a mouth mount of a snorkel and it turned out pretty legit. I can't stand the views of the surfer's feet...and that clanky water noise is insanely annoying.
I went for black, two months ago. At first I was using just a single setting (so white/silver would have done) now I'm discovering uses for the multiple extra settings. I haven't used the remote yet, because the free app works as a remote. If I ever need a waterproof remote, I'll use it. I think we are 6 months away from release of a new model, so it might get really cheap then. I use it constantly like an addict, at work, home, and for play. I actually had to get a new hard drive for all the video. The surfboard mount from GoPro is a good start, think of mounting one in front and one in back for different views. It comes with a fin socket mount for underwater views I haven't used yet. You can make a cheap surfboard mount with the flat piece of plastic that comes with the camera in the box by duct taping to your board. I made a mount on the back of a glove that is great for switching from a self to forward view as you ride. There is one for sale that is a wrist mount that will do it. I made a pole mount from a shortened broomstick handle that is better for snowboarding, but works for surfing too. Ones I haven't tried that would work for surfing are a bite mount, or a headband mount. Lots of people lose them in the water!! I usually have a backup strip of duct tape, a foam float, or a wrist strap.
Thanks amigos. I was biting the damn water housing they have for the backing hahaha. But its fun for sure. The 7S treats me well with a twin fin and the knubster in the middle.
thanks for the input yall. the fin socket mount is to put a fcs plug on the nose of your board, ccopola, the drag from a go pro would be insane if you tried to put it under the board and then ride the board
