So Im at a point in my life right now where I have decided Im going to quit my job and go roam through Australia with my friend for a few months. Im flying into Brisbane on June 1st and traveling around from there, but eventually ending up in Newcastle. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience in going to Australia? Places that we cant pass up, good breaks, fun stuff to do, etc.? We really don't have many plans as to where we are headed when we get there so any input would be appreciated
australia mad kangaroos, mad sharks, mad koualas but mad good waves, mad good beer and mad boomerangs
you are better off going to margaret river that time of year. The east coast will be mediocre at best. Air temps will be a bit on the cool side in brisbane. If you're set on looking for waves check the area known as the sunshine coast and up to noosa. some good points and beachbreaks. Morton Island is also worth checking out but you need a 4wd and camping gear.
Im not going to just be surfing the whole time, but I definitely want to get wet as much as possible. I wonder if it is going to be worth it to carry around a wetsuit with me for a few months. The guy I am going with used to surf back in the day but hasnt for years, but given this opportunity Im sure he wont object to surfing a lot. Also, we do not have to stay near Brisbane the whole time. We are totally open to traveling anywhere and were both buying a rail pass, so is it worth going anywhere else that time of year?
you won't need a wetsuit unless you go down past the gold coast. Even then, a top or spring suit will be enough. The train stations aren't really near any beaches...you could bus it, from the train station which is okay. Cheaper than buying a car but takes a while to get around.
