OCMD was ok yesterday, but that sideshore current was a northbound transporter. Assateague today was lots of fun. Plenty of long peeling waves & lots of short up & down right coast stuff, of course. I will admit to being pretty friggin cold after 3 hours in the water with just boards & rashie. The upwelling kept it nippy out there. The guys who wore shorties were smart. After weeks of not very much, along with the usual bellyaching & griping by those-that-are-rarely-happy, this was a good call by Micah. Props are due!
I concur. I drove 7 hours roundtrip to/from Assateague with my 2 boys just to bodyboard for 4 hours. Was it perfect? No. Was it worth the trip? Absolutely. Got very lucky on the traffic front, too. Water was a tad chilly. At the end of July I returned from a 2 week vacation in New Smryna, so today's session took a little getting used to. Still, when you have "the fever", no hill is an obstacle. I hadn't been to Assateague in 25 years until today, so I was quite surprised at the crowd near the entrance. Didn't take much walking to get to a less crowded area, but I was amazed at the number of folks eschewing the honky-tonk of OCMD and going to Assateague instead.
yeah the forecast for lbi was literally spot on this weekend, i would however like to see the wind readings back up
"slurp slurp, mmmmmm" Don't forget to wipe your chin. Forecast was 3-4+ for both days. In reality it was 2ft with occ. 3ft maybe. I'm not ripping on the forecast, just the *ick sucking.
Please don't be offended by my comment, I'm just rippin. I did get a handful of fun ones on my shortboard in the morning yesterday and a sh*t load of fun longboard waves in the afternoon.
Well there you go, Douggie, even you grudgingly admit that you had fun. In a week or so, the haters can re-surface & start *****ing about the f'u'cast. Autumn is just around the corner. Storms are coming, tourists go home, soon, and life in the water improves, soon.
enough out there to stay loose. please bring some tropical waves soon. this summer mush is getting real old
Definite score here at the Inlet, I got there early to get a good spot and hang out all day, at 1st wasn't catching anything although they looked good from the beach, the low offshore and slow rolling 10 secs was making it a bit too slow but once the tide started to shift and the the sets started firing it was 2-3 with 4+ sets and PERFECT, I SUP'd the F out of some waves early while the wind was low and the crowd was slim, but once the wind shifted I pulled out the 8'1"er and went to town before storms rolled in. Great great day, was a little underforecasted for SI (said knee high), but Surfline (said 2-3 w/+sets)s nailed it, so luckily I didn't get skunked on my 2.5hr drive in the dark!
