I've always said his boards are good looking, just wish he would stop raping dummies in barns. I do miss that tool bag though. He was fun to argue with.
I totally understand that it's not for everyone, but in all fairness it's not right to just come out and call them tools. I get they're expensive, but again, it's not for everyone and you're paying for an "experience" not just a pop out on a shelf. As far as stealing designs, not sure about that. Mike is one of the originals and Brad has been with them since the beginning. Yes, they use sustainable resins. Check out their stuff on the website. It's all there. It's an organic resin that I believe is sap based. I think it's Entropy resins. Don't go to the "silly little hipster" event if you don't like it. It's a bunch of people who appreciate the arts alternative board designs. Sorry, not sure where I see the problem with that. Yes, they weigh a ton more than traditional boards. Definitely has it's pros and cons. I think if you want a performance based board that can just be thrown around and act like a traditional foam board, definitely stay away from them. But, their longboards fly on trim with the extra weight and get through chop that would normally hold a shortboard up. I have a 5'6" that I built with them and it really moves and feels so good on the right days. Whatever, obviously I'm not trying to sway you from your decision towards them, but they're friends and I'm just not cool with someone putting them down for doing something different.
I respect the fact that you "have their back" cause your buddies but I can assure you i have been around them enough to back up my statement . Not just throwing poop in the air .
Fuk those TOOLS at Grain! This is Merica and the intraweb and we can say whatever the hell we want about your little b!tch ass friends. Silly little hipster f@ggots are the worst.
Well thank you R carter . I know we've had our differences but I thought I was alone on this one . The best is when they all (line 30 at a time)invade the break with the grain trucker hats and patagucci rubber and just take over the beach . It's a Sht show
Yeah their boards are okay but they are a bunch of hipster nut bags. Did not know about the mass invasion of a break. That just makes them bigger asshats. Plus CBlack is a ball licker for getting all pissy about you insulting his "friends". Let Grain come on here and fight for themselves.
Not Maine, but at least New England... There's an old dog on Nantucket that's been doing beautiful boards since the '60's or 70's... Spyder Wright. He actually sells boards out of jewelry shop on the island, but has factories in a bunch of different locations. I met him once and checked out his work and his shop... really nice work, and can build you anything. He's not a "big name," but doesn't need to be. Been around a long time, and has the right attitude.
Haha, you guys are ridiculous. I guess if you read my response while drunk and looking to fight you might be able to find some hostility in it. Otherwise, it was another point of view on a topic that you asked about. Good luck on your board hunt.
CB . I wrote 4 sentences and you wrote 2 long paragraphs defending a "shaper" (from VT ?) you may be a lil cuckolded to these guys . They have trapped you in the hipster commune of brethren just to use you as marketing 10 G's says you have that silly grain sticker on your (let me guess) outback ? Tacoma? Element ? Becareful they will start using you to peel potatoes and onions @ the potluck bonfire .
Ha! Told you . I have my moments sugar face . Get back to picking wood chips out of your beard and crying out loud wash that trucker hat ! Peace out
My 5'-10" twin fin fish that I bought from Maine Surfers Union has been great. I believe it was shaped by Nick. Not a custom order but a great board non the less. Have been riding it primarily for the past two years now.
I know Chuck taylor will do custom wood boards for ppl, also lets ppl shape their own which is rad. This guy I knkw from surfbbros fest had a fish he shaped from a blank of chucks. I've been meaning to try that Roy board that Chuck has stached in his board trove. I hit him up recently regarding olo. This summer ... And he's not gay hipster barn animal with clan of hipsters from what I can tell but the wood board guys seem a bit like mega kooks in general the so it's hard to tell
Thanks Ben.. Its nice to know U got my back these days in the perilous realm of inter web shenanigans. My 5 6 fish kit design has finally come around to the point that I'm happy with it. Surfboards are a rad night job. catching lobsters and fixing old cemeteries by day and shaping by night. I am my own biggest critic... these chambered boards are Light weight and pretty darn durable too. Ive been down to rhode island a good bit lately, next time i come lets surf and u can ride one of these little fishes.
