You know the answer to that. But, consider context and audience of the text. Paul was writing to believers (see 1:1) and addressing issues they were dealing with. You are in a forum similar to Paul at Mars Hill, amongst people of various beliefs. His approach & M.O. in Acts 17 totally different in proclaiming truth than when he addressed believers in his letters. IMHO, and based on the model of Paul and Christ himself, and others throughout history, it is important to present the message in a context that the hearer will understand and embrace, and be able to apply (of course realizing that not all will accept it). Context, audience & venue.

What did Jesus do? How did He communicate truth? He told parables -- stories - many were targeted to an agrarian culture, that illustrated a deeper spiritual truth, so that those who were willing to listen, could grasp it. Above all, be genuine & humble. Hypocrisy in religion has soured it for most.

The dudes here are into surfing, an occasional serious discussion, ribbing and jousting, humor, and a bit of silliness. IMHO, "drive by" scriptures are not going to "reach" them. It's only bringing on angst towards you, which, since you've just quoted from Matthew 7 (look back a few verses) is the consequence of not applying verse 6.
