I am new to the surfing game and wondering some good spots to go to in Northern Jersey. Went down to Long Branch last night and it was dead. Was also reading some posts and I am a little confused about where you can surf, I am from down South and beach access was free and you could surf wherever you want. Any help is appreciated.

it cost to get on the beach from memorial day to labor day. surfing is permited in certain spots desegnated with flags. in sime towns its only one or two blocks others are alot bigger and the swiming area is smaller. for instance ortleybeach has about two blocks of surfing area. but normandy beach its bigger. you can surf virtually every block

Good thing about Long Branch, is they won't charge you, if you are going down to the beach just to surf. There are plenty of spots in the area, but the ocean is not providing much in the way of swell right now. Hopefully relief will be on the way soon.

This is a pretty good thread . I have been talking to a friend about going more north after labor day to surf since I got more dependable wheels now . It just goes to show you that you can make pretty fun surf session when you Day trip

IMHO long branch doesnt offer much in the way of good sand bars. spots a few towns south tend to have the best surf and make the best out of poor swells.

ALSO, lets play the not blow up surf spots on popular websites game, eh?
