me and a friend are trying to get into the sport, but are not trying to get in anyone's way or look like kooks. any advice of where to go or where to stay out of? located in San Diego county area
Go to Pacific Beach. Law Street and Tourmaline St. are excellent for newbs, but just about any spot in PB is a good safe spot to learn. La Jolla Shores is another good learning break. Stay clear of reef breaks, including most of La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs. Avoid paddling out next to experienced surfers and you'll be fine
