We'll see if we can get a little more mileage out of that term, put a few extra coins in your pocket, it's SI forum gold!
I can't stand 99% of the surfing footage I see taken with gopro. You have to get creative and put in the time to get anything anyone, other than yourself, would ever want to watch. Buy a couple or more cams so you can also film your friends surfing..not just the standard boring first person pov footy. Make actual edits instead of just slapping raw footy up on the net...this way maybe you'll realize how crappy and boring the footy really is.
I won a new Hero4 Session and have used it for about a month. Very few good waves captured so far and some soul-searching just getting the nerve to paddle out with the thing attached to my board. I found the stigma of having a narcissistic device attached to my board almost unbearable at first. Fun at first, but getting boring and looking for other uses already. Perhaps things will change when we get some real waves. Editing is fun. Sharing is easy. But the only person who *really* enjoys it is you...but then that's the point, right?
As much as I dislike the whole go-pro thing.... I do have one and it's totally a lot of fun! My wonderful wife bought it for me- it's the cheapest one they make $130 and it's awesome for the money. I totally couldn't spend 400 on something that could sink one day in the ocean. You can use it for tons of stuff other then surfing. I totally don't mount it on my board and only take it on select days when it's good- I just have strap on it for my wrist and just paddle while holding it. Just buy the $130 one- it has a few draw backs compared to the 400 one- but I'm not missing any of the features and it tAkes perfect pics and videos Also I agree with huuons points- your the only one who will really watch it. But it's totally fun filming friends on the inside. Also - it would be perfect to capture funny times and all the nonsense and craziness of a surf trip. Like when the policia pulls you over- or when you pull a prank on your bro

I didn't say a word. I just got aggressive with positioning, and they both eventually gave up. Whenever possible I try to separate from the group (waves permitting). It's so annoying when sloppy novice surfers think it's a good idea to paddle over to an experienced surfer and start competing for every wave.
^this is why I have a gopro. to film yourself surfing, you have to find someone actually willing to record you surfing, and the person has to be good at filming... then you gotta go through the process of editing. if you dont know how to edit you have to find someone that can edit... long process. thats why i just stick to filming and editing shots of empty waves or other surfers.
No the point of sharing something is that the people you are sharing it with get some enjoyment from it.
I've thought about getting a go pro to record the mayhem summer brings to the beach, kooks ,boobs bikinis, family stuff ect. Not so much for my surfing. Wouldn't mind shooting other people surfing for sh*ts and giggles. Can't see mounting to board though.
Empties brah, empties...I want pics of what I see when I paddle over the shoulder and look into the barrel on a good day.
Exactly. That's the good shiz. The only board mount set up I like the footage from is Brian Conley's. I think it's on a post, mounted to the tail of the board, pointing foreward. The "My Eyes Won't Dry" movies are pretty cool imo.
