The wife and I dropped our two year old off at her parents on Friday and she asked me what I wanted to do Saturday. I said I wanted to go to a couple surf shops, maybe pick up a pair of board shorts. First on the list was Austin's surfshop. I'd only ever just driven by there and have been wanting to check it out for a while. So we go in and I'm a pinch disappointed because he didn't have any board shorts, just Austin shirts, but oh my...what beautiful boards he had.

After talking with him, his Dad, and a guy named Jet for a while my wife says, "Which one do you want?" I looked at her a little surprised but didn't pay the comment much mind and kept talking with the guys at the shop. A couple minutes later I look at her and can tell she's starting to get a little bored. Then she drops the bomb, "Are you gonna get one or what?" To which I responded, "Are you serious?" She just kind of shrugged her shoulders and looked at me. I didn't really know what to do...was this a trap? She can be sneaky like that so my guard was up. I suggested lunch and we could discuss it further there.

A crab cake sandwich later we were headed back to the shop. Still unsure of what I was going to do or which board to get I talked with the guys for a couple more minutes. Then I said to myself, "This may cost me be but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it" so I pulled the trigger on a 9'6" Soul Glide.

I've been riding an 8' Nolte fun shape since I started surfing last summer and I like it but something about longboards has been wispering to me for a decade or more. Well, now I finally have one and the surf is supposed to be filling in a bit today...Life is good.

By the way, Austin and his crew are a great bunch and the boards are flippin' top notch. Stop in if you get the chance.

    Clint

Sweet - do you have to be 'sneaky" too to use it? Enjoy the Glide!

Just got back from the beach. The surf was waist to chest or so and this thing is awesome. I can't get over how fast it paddles and how well it glides plus the easiest wave entry I've had in the year I've been at it. I'm not saying it's a better or worse board than my Nolte but I do enjoy it a lot more...could be time for the chopping block.

Patsy went to the beach with me today so I don't have to be sneaky but getting a couple tasks complete from the honey-do list would be to my benefit.

Glad you had a great time on your new log. On that note, I hope everyone on the East Coast enjoyed the bump this weekend. If you're in CB, I will see you early tomorrow morning. Peace.

I found out what a great shop Austin runs about three years ago. I had been WRV to the core from back in the early eighty's (Frierson Era) but became disenchanted. On a whim I checked out Austins shop which was Beach Board House at that time. The customer service is great. Everybody is friendly and genuine and the boards are fanfreakingtastic. Not are they functional art but they ride as good as they look. Hope you enjoy your soul glide as much as I do mine.

Austin and his crew are definitely a class act. I know what you mean about WRV...kinda. Only went in there for the first time last year to look at the used board rack, but it had a corporate feel too it. Not the home town, friendly, hope you have a good session kinda feel that Austin's place does.

I agree with clintopher, the wrv shop feels like a chain shop (which it kinda is). I took a trip into austin's shop too not to long ago, and his stuff is amazing looking. I would just have to be sitting on some money to pick up one of those logs. I feel like I am too rough with my boards to even own one of those beauties. I also really like Freedom Surf Shop. They have some really nice stuff and are really nice and helpful, along with a nice used selection.

Yeah, I like Freedom too. Was actually planning on going to Austin's to check it out and then head over to Freedom to see what they had on the used rack. There wasn't much point in fulfilling that plan one the board landed in the back of my truck at Austin's.

hey man good for you I recently got one too. Never had so much fun in 1 footers before and my shortboarding has improved from it as well. Man you can throw a short board around after riding a log for a while. last weekend's swell was a blast and while my friends were rusty I was getting wave after wave.

I didn't get mine new or from Austin but I did take it to him for some repairs and he did a top notch job. Delam repair and a new finbox for under $100. PM me if you want to catch some knee slappers one day in VB. Later

Hey Brother! Awesome for you. getting and loving the longboard! I got myself a new log this season I haven't had out yet; its a Bing levitator and from all the stoke of the crew around me when I bought it, it evidently is supposed to be a fun ride :) I can't wait to try it some time soon when I get vacation at my break. Have fun and be safe man!

Congrats on your Levitator! I'm on the Bing list for a 9'0" as we speak. They pump out quality boards with mind blowing rails. I got hooked with my 9'6" Elevator. Keep me posted on your Levitator's performance. Pictures would be cool too. Matt & crew are top notch when it comes to glassing and coloring.

I will definitely be posting back a report here once I get out on it. I'm sure marknel will be trolling for me trying to capture kook shots of me trying surfing it :) but I'm okay with it...my wife already coined me "you are the kook of kooks" when we were on AI last week :D I have her saying it on video and its funny but I have no clue how to share it on here.
And I hear the Elevator is a smooth ride, is thiz true? People say the levitator is similar.
