I went out in baby waves this week by the hook. I thought I was getting stung by jellies. Started looking around between 10 minute waits for knee high sets, and saw tons of snake like chaining jellies. At first I thought they were biting me. Turns out they were salps and don't bite humans but feed off bacteria. But my skin looks like I slept in a spiders webs. Painful bites that swell up and bleed. The second day I wear boardies too. Wtf. Went out again but wore 3-2. Shiite waves and now I look like the toxic avenger. Hope it passes.
Dudeskis it really sounds like out water is contaminated. We better all stop surfing... I heard that Belmar is the only place that has clean water. They actually pump fresh water onto thier beaches everymorning - cleanest beach in the north east I actually had a sore/lump on the side two or three weeks a ago- I thought it was a cyst - but maybe it's from all the pollution. If I'm not surfing Belmar- I'm going to start wearing the 3/2 full time. #cleanwaterinbelmar
Nothing like soaking in knee high turd stew then getting ill to raise the stoke. Don't worry it will go away. I used to live in Belmar and the when it rained and the outflow was kickin everyone who surfed got sick. Stay away from the pipes, especially the ones that drain from lakes where ducks/geese live and you will stay healthy.
Good to hear that I wasn't the only one with these issues. The throat problem is gone and the bumps are faded for the most part. My skin is just dry and itchy from the soap I had to use haha luckily the waters cleaned up a little with this swell we've got coming
that NJ site seems to only test (or post data) results for Entero on a weekly basis. I cant imagine that is the only thing that can make us sick. Lets hope it stays dry through thursday. I like my fat girls (Bertha is a fat girl name) without bacterial infection

It's a shame that theres a slug dump right off Sandy Hook. It's also a shame that the fluke I catch and eat regularly are swimming along the contaminated ocean floor right near it. You just can't win sometimes
I got a sinus infection after surfing Bertha 2nd beach Newport RI Wednesday... pretty much gone by now, but yeah in addition to the usual smelly red seaweed there was a lot of reeeally smelly brown foam...
Galveston just had a case of flesh eating bacteria. That stuff is scary. I always check online before I go.
Not that this will keep anyone out of the water, 4 closed today due to run off - Sea Girt, Spring Lake. http://njbeaches.org
virginia beach is closed from 22nd to 77th streets due to bacteria levels, got the notice about an hour ago.
Oh man... Well apparently they still let you surf there... Don't ask me how I know... Think that's why I got the runs? Oh yea - netti pot brahs- just get one already so we can all move on with our lives without having 10 threads about getting a sinus infection.
This all sucks to read. I surf pretty regularly near Lake Como and geezus, the swan population of that damn lake is ridiculous. I mean, 4-5 swans on a lake is pretty. I get it. But this is like a friggin' mass production poultry operation going on. The amount of crap in that lake, and then pushing out into the surf zone after a rain has got to be ridiculous. We need a serious egg addling operation or something.
Anyone know if ri is gonna have any water problems tomorrow. Fighting a bout of poison ivy and I don't wanna get it infected
