I was off work and spending the holidays at home for the last couple of weeks, and during that time there were about 2 surfing days. Tell me more about this frustrating hobby lol
All I can remember is that there was only one good day in January last winter. I will be at the gym every day unfortunately.

Welcome to my world, the gulf. I will be booking for PR in the next few weeks when the forecast dictates.
wow no waves here so everybody goes to puerto rico? is that the hawaii or california for the east coast? lol. it just so happens for vacation im on going on a cruise in january and the first stop is puerto rico and i will be taking my board on the cruise so im going to surf a few islands.Anyone been to san juan puerto rico and surfed it? i want to know what is the best beach to go to when i get there
La Ocho Ask for the directions to Escambron Beach, which is near the Caribe Hilton. Once you get to the public parking lot, pay the $2 daily fee and avoid the hassle of getting a ticket. When you get to where the surfers enter the water you will see the public beach to your right behind a long line of rocks, out in front of you about a 1/3 of a mile out you will see a very large rock, to the left of this rock is the break. The wave consists of a long steep mushy right wall (sometimes very long when conditions are perfect) with a 12 to 15 minute paddle back and a much shorter but sometimes hollow left with a 3 min. paddle back out. The break starts working well at 5 to 6 ft maxing out at 10 ft. Beware of sneeker sets, as the water depth drops off considerably only a hundred yards out, allowing large waves to come in unnoticed until too late and cleaning out the line up. Resulting in people ditching their boards in front of you as your duck diving (OUCH!). Also watch for the boil on the face of large waves coming, when you see this be prepared as this usually means a cleaner set is coming thru-- so paddle like hell! The wave that breaks on the east side of the rock is called Little Fiji, a fun left only ledging hollow takeoff, starts breaking 3 foot and can be ridden up to 6-8ft faces before it stops working. The take off peak is in 4 feet of water and then it deepens out making the wave back off and get mushy. Reforms again on the inside. Unless you know how to get thru the reef or paddle out with someoone that knows dont go. If will hurt you, better to paddle to the west side (La Ocho) and have fun. Atmosphere The spot has fallen out of favor with the younger crowd--typically the crowd will consist of surfers in their 30's and older that have been surfing this spot their whole life. So give them respect, leave your aggro attitude at home, wait your turn , smile alot, you will be rewarded with good times and good waves. Localism isnt a problem here but there has been a surfer or two that has been sent packing when they had the wrong attitude.
I've surfed there a bunch of times. It gets really crowded and usually there's a cross/onshore wind comin down the beach 15-20 mph but the surf can be really fun and its visitor friendly. The best surfing in PR is the west for sure...Rincon has some world class surf, and the wind is almost always offshore. Maria's is a really nice little reef break that's a really popular tourist destination. The surf scene is chill though. If you have to go to San Juan though Isle Verde is a long stretch of beach break that is pretty fun. The swell is supposed to be firing the next week, especially the west but the swell in the north will be bumpier. Still large though.
Heck yeah marky sharky, that's a proper trip. I never seem to get down there for more than a few days at a time.
this winter has been pretty decent. relax its the east coast man. move to cali if you dont like a week of flatness.
Yeah should be good, kiddies back to college, I stay on the north side up at Ramey air base . Always waves somewhere up there so out of 2 weeks I should get 10-12 days in the water. Looking forward to clean, warm water and reef breaks!
yeah eff this flatness. I broke up with my hoe a few weeks ago and been hitting the gym hard. Need to get SHREDDED for the summer time and tear dat der ocean front up!
The entire coast is pretty much flat for at least the next week....literally there's like 5 spots on swellinfo that are over thigh-waist that I could find but other than that it looks like we're gonna have to tough it out..
