Please report the current guarding policies on your beach- and then how to best educate them about being more reasonable with surfers and surfing rules. OCM is currently using "modified" beach rules since the water is still cold and vacationers are not yet in huge numbers. On surfing beaches (three, w/ two rotating daily and one on weekdays only) there is a leash requirement. New guards tend to be more deliberate in enforcing ALL the rules, but experienced guards (especially those who surf themselves) tend to be a tad more flexible.

What's the best way to get them on your side and keep them friendly? What works for you?

By the way, Maryland does not yet have a beach use fee beyond parking fees downtown. Let's hope they never get that desperate.

Keep them friendly? Just listen to what they say. They'll respect you and be more lenient.
