My XM leash won't stay together. There is a brass ball that fits into a brass receiver (for lack of better words) and it will no longer stay together. I liked the fact that my leash did not tangle but it's only 1 1/2 years old and it's done. I'm gonna whack it with a hammer a few times and hope for the best. Any preferences on a leash? Any to stay away from? tanks.

dont buy xm i swear by creature leashes those things have saved me more than i can count on oh swells and have never broke. to answer your question ive had the same problem like you have years ago with xm and yea your leash is shot.
go for creature or my 2nd pick is dakine...oh and dont store your leashes coiled up i let mine free hang from the board rack and i never get it wrapped around my legs anymore in the water

if it's a thinner or comp leash, 1.5 years is actually a respectable lifespan for a leash.

Of all the companies, Creatures seems the most tech/inovative, at least when it comes to leashes. I use them because their "DNA Flex Mould" connectors supposedly last longer...but I have broken them within months. They have a 2 year warranty on all their leashes.

    Dakine

Lasts the longest in my experience

But I also try not to rely on my leash

I'm guessing Dakine's Limited Lifetime Warranty only gets you one extra leash if the first one breaks...but that's still better than a 2 year warranty, I suppose.

I've been using Ocean&Earth. I have used one for 3 years, no problems. Very solid, strong leash, with a couple of nice features.

I watched a dude paddle out without a leash the other day and within 5 minutes lost his board and it banged up against the jetty repeatedly until he could get to it, session was over for him , board ruined. Came back with a another board a little while later, with guess what attached to it... Yep you guessed it... a leash. F'ing idiot is what I called him.

I love my OAM leash. 6 foot regular leash. Use it on a 5,0 custom shell shapes super brand board 5,2 super fling and a 5,3 custom super brand board. It's great doesn't tangle and is a good one for nice east coast swells.

But I also go leash less a lot. All I surf leash less is sandy beach breaks not near rocks outflows or jetties though

None of my DaKine's have ever broken, oldest one is close to 10 yrs old now so if it breaks its like the car with 300k miles on it breaking down, I got more out of it than can be expected. Broke 2 xm's one in surf that it shouldn't have broken in the other was only 2 months old and broke in doh noreaster surf in February, was surfing a spot with no beach just rock walls n jetties so I had to swim in my 5.4.3 a pretty far distance in crazy currents to exit the ocean safely on top of that my board got smashed into 1,000 peices. FU xm!
