in the Garner case it was 100% the officer.

 

Any old-school cop with common sense could have defused that situation. The way some neighborhoods in New York City are policed is insane, especially given that crime rates are basically as low as they can be.

 

I'm not saying all of these officers handle or handled things in the correct way!! But these criminals don't handle things the correct way either!

it takes a certain type of person to be a cop, and it takes a certain type of cop to wear NYPD badge. Sucks that they have to be judged from afar by people on this forum and others like it who would break down and crumble after one day of their job actually scratch that, not one day - I doubt most handle a full shift in an active precinct. But thats part of the job too, being hated by the people for enforcing the laws that the officials elected by those same people enact.

 

The scariest part of this whole situation isn't Garner getting killed, which was a tragedy, or the two cops getting killed, which was also a tragedy, but the reaction from the NYC cops who are blaming everyone but themselves for the killing of their brothers. Not to say that it's their fault either. This was a lone-wolf mad man who obviously had some mental issues. But just like you can't blame the cops, you also can't blame the mayor or Eric Holder or Obama. How about everyone just step back, look inside, and do a little soul searching? I read a quote from Giuliani in some article about how much cops have done for the black community. Say what? It's scary people can be so far out of touch from reality. I saw a super liberal friend from college liking a post that said something like, "Christmas came early. Two cops are dead." Those are human beings with families and friends. How can you possibly think like that? People have to calm the eff down and come together and stop labeling each other as the enemy. It's mother****ing Christmas, goddammit!
