for the record, this story is cbb09's, I can take no credit for it. Just trying to make sure it finds the audience it deserves.
Hands up! Don't poop! This whole thing is a bunch of BS. Michael Brown was not innocent...if you rob stores, punch cops and try to take their guns, ...there's a good chance your going to get shot. In the Garner case, a chokehold was a little over the line ...but, resisting arrest is not ok, no matter what color you are. Do I believe cops are 100% in the right? Of course not...I had a bad experience with them earlier this year where they accused me of being something I'm not...but, for the most part...cops are doing a good job. It may seem like they are targeting black people, but the truth of the matter is they go to where the crime is...and unfortunately blacks are committing a high percentage of violent crimes. There are many factors that have caused this, but there's no excuse for being an evil pos who steals and has no regard for his fellow man. Lastly, the media has stirred up all of this to be a race issue, when, in fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with race. Love your neighbor. Merry Christmas.
do a little research and see what the "chokehold" was back in the day... if they had have performed a proper chokehold, he wouldn't have been able to say "I can't breathe" Also, watch the video....if he had not have resisted arrest, he would still be alive....paid a fine and been on his way.... Like i said, I do believe they crossed the line with Garner, but his health and the fact that he raised his hands when they were trying to detain him played a part in his demise.
or the cop should have not used a banned procedure on someone selling cigarettes. a cop I might add, that already had two pending abuse lawsuits.
They target white guys with beards that drive big American-made motorcycles AND they target long-hairs with surfboards on their roofs as well. I've been a victim of both stereotypes. Some times I was guilty of breaking STUPID laws enacted by old men like 90 years ago to stop smuggling during prohibition. ] Other times I was doing NOTHING wrong at all. Once in my truck, with surfboards hanging out da back, long-haired brother in law as passenger, we got pulled over by NJ SP. I asked why I was pulled over. He said when I passed him, I looked nervous. He then asked if he could search the truck. I told him no, that me looking nervous is not probable cause to search my vehicle or pull me over. He made me wait 15 minutes or so then a K-9 wagon pulls up. They take us out and cuff us. I ask why am I being arrested? He says, you aren't being arrested, we are detaining you while we search your vehicle. They found nothing. I was going to sue but a lawyer told me that there are laws that ALLOW COPS to f@cking search your vehicle without probable cause. The law was enacted during prohibition so smugglers wouldn't drive away while cops went and got a warrant to search vehicles. I'm not black so you don't hear about this sh!t in the media. Working class whites don't count in the liberal media's eyes.
The moral of my long winded story was that the cops will do to you what they want, up to and including KILLING you and then they can hide behind obscure laws to get away with it. Tough spot to be in if you are John Q Citizen right now. On one side, you have ghetto thugs running wild with a sense of entitlement. On the other, you have a Police State in full effect, with cops running amok.
I believe it 100%! I was pulled over and given a speeding ticket when I was not speeding. I was doing 55 in a 55 and was told I was doing 71. I was going to fight it but I would have had to drive 2hrs to court and if I lost would of cost me more money than just paying it. He knew what he was doing... he saw my board on the roof and was leaving the beach and about to get on the interstate to head home. FHP toll / tax / HWY robbery
I am not sticking up for this cop, i know nothing about him and ...yes, there are bad apples on both sides of the fence. put yourself in the shoes of a cop, though....it is a very tough job, having to make quick decisions that could result in the loss of your life numerous times throughout the course of each day.... ...and you could begin to understand how a mistake like this was made. I really doubt the cop thought his actions were going to kill the guy....and I will reiterate my point once again... No matter how much you hate cops, if you show respect and do what they tell you, you won't have a problem. if you resist, you are putting your life on the line, no matter what color you are.
Man, +100. That whole '#whitecriming' thing really pi$$ed me off, as my first arrest when I was 14 I got beat up(head slammed into brick wall while cuffed technically) and charges dropped b/c of, then againe at 18...which was well deserved, but I didn't get any 'white privelege'. And just to keep it thread related, my .02: Brown case too many ambiguities to illicit the reaction it did, but Garner, fock man...that was outta control and those cops shoula been convicted. Very unfortunate from a societal perspective that Garner came right on the heels of the Ferguson situation, apples and oranges imo.
i never bought the romantic view of police. Statistics show its not even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs. What you have is a subset of police who love the violence and love the power. THOSE are the guys that cause the issue. Panteleo (NYC cop) has a past history of this type of thing. When I was shooting competitively i saw this in spades. Some cops were ALWAYS talking about how they couldn't wait to shoot somebody or something (dog). And there is the sexual abuse issue which is way beyond the scope of the shootings. Cops pulling over pretty girls to try to get a phone number, performing illegal 'searches', and outright rape. That in and of itself is a big problem but combine that with a culture of protecting their own and you see what we are seeing today.
pump did you post that article a coupke days ago about the cop who raped a lady instead of investigating her burglarized house? Think I saw that here...
i did. and i f you really take a close look at it you will notice that his dept didnt really do much of anything and basically said the victim was at fault. She had to sue and finally got the US attorney involved. Looks like something similar may be happening tot he Oklahoma state trooper who raped all those women.
I agree, man is fallable....there is abuse of power in every facet of our system. What's your solution, pump? Just to add, Garner was a habitual law breaker with over 30 prior arrests... Something tells me if he was an honest, upstanding law-abiding citizen, he would not be dead.
Damn seldom, you sound like you get in a lot of trouble. You better find out how many arrests you are allowed before it becomes okay to choke you to death.
