Quick search of the Galveston County jail: Of the 888 inmates, 187 are there for possession of something. That's 21%! I'm sure if I dug deeper, it's actually more than that, even.

 

yep. everybody gets so freaked out but Big Oil, OR Big Pharma or Big Agri when they really ought to be concerned with Big Law enforcement.

 

It's all about $$$, with no inmates there will be tons of folks without jobs and the money the inmates generate by paying for their "crimes" will dry up and so would state funding, so gotta keep locking up dudes / gals with a drug problem, rather than getting them the real help they need. I have a nephew that just went back to prison for 14 months because he has a drug addiction that leads him to stealing eventually.

The last prison term he served (18 months) did NOTHING to reform him. He was back to doing what he does within 24-48hrs of being released. The system is broke. If he had been put into a max security rehab facility and they focused on the core of the issue, which is his addition, then he may have a better chance at a productive life when he's released. Can't just lock them up with a bunch of criminals and expect them to come out well adjusted. It's a joke.

 

don't get me wrong, I agree with what your saying...

this "hands up" sh!t, though is total BS.....if the people protesting used a better example of police wrong-doing for their slogan they would have a little more credibility.

Looting and burning down a city over lies is despicable and doesn't help anyone out.

 

Totally agree with this. Garner was a much better example and polls show this.
