I feel that my Dad passed on to me his love for the water and the ocean: fishing, crabbing, boating, sailing, and skin diving. Good times and fond memories. He's now in a nursing home since breaking his hip and having hip replacement surgery last January. He has remained wheelchair bound since and is now in a nursing home. I tried passing on the same love for the water to my boys as they were growing up in CA and here in the VA Beach area. Take advantage of what time you have with your Dads. If nothing else, just go out fishing together. We didn't always agree on a number of things, but he still encouraged me to keep surfing. He thought it was great that I took it up almost three years ago at the age of 57. Happy Father's Day, to all Dads out there!
Introduce your Dad to a new sport--chasing nurses in the nursing home!! It will make him young again. Who knows?? Maybe one will respond positively and he will get "lucky"??
Happy fathers day... now get out there and enjoy yourself. Monday if you feel like $hit you did your job!
The scariest day of the year!!! Every year I worry about some kid I never knew showing up at my door saying "hi I think you are my dad." See guys I am good looking and the ladies love me. This is my curse.
Happy Father's Day to all you Dads. My dad turned 80 last Sept. He has given me such an appreciation for the out-doors and continues to be a motivating factor in my life. This winter he broke his shoulder while skiing and had to have it replaced. He is on the mend and hopefully getting his golf swing back by next year. He lives for golf. Love you dad. Happy Fathers Day!
I hear ya, DQ. Good influences and fond memories that last a lifetime. In some cases the actual event or activity might have been only an hour or two. Working on a car together. Repairing a fence. Taking my Dad's old Parker double barrel 12 gauge out to shoot at old cans thrown in the air. This was in the 60s when we lived in Ohio. Fishing was the most common outdoor activity we shared over the years. I was going through one of my Dad's old photo albums recently. Quite a few shots of him, his brother, and Grandpa out fishing in central NY during the late 1930s and 40s. Grandpa had an old wooden outboard (named after Grandma) that they kept at Oneida lake. My kids enjoy looking at those old photos as well.
