yeah this has the chance to be a devastating rainfall (and wind - but its the water that kills) event for parts of Texas if it sits and just dumps rain for days as some forecasts are saying. SE texas will be under a lot of water if these rainfall totals verify:

    1. Harvey is expected to be a major hurricane at landfall, bringing
life-threatening storm surge, rainfall, and wind hazards to portions
of the Texas coast. Preparations to protect life and property should
be completed this morning, as tropical-storm-force winds will first
arrive in the hurricane and storm surge warning areas later today.

    2. A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for much of the Texas coast.
Life-threatening storm surge flooding could reach heights of 6 to 12
feet above ground level at the coast between the north entrance of
the Padre Island National Seashore and Sargent. For a depiction of
areas at risk, see the Storm Surge Watch/Warning Graphic at
    hurricanes.gov.

    3. Devastating and life-threatening flooding is expected across the
middle and upper Texas coast from heavy rainfall of 15 to 25 inches,
with isolated amounts as high as 35 inches, from today through next
    Wednesday.---NHC

The boys at flhurricane.com comment flooding may reach "biblical proportions".

Sure hope FEMA is up to the challenge of rescuing citizens from roof tops.

Thinking about my fellow Americans in Texas today. Really worried about the folks who don't evac. This is not the time to prove how tough (stupid) you are. Do not put first-responders at risk with hardheadedness.

Given how quick rural Texans are to credit Jesus for everything good and bad, I wonder what they did to deserve this? It's almost like it's just a random weather event and not anything personal.

Guess those coastal folks shouldn't be counting a Irene style insurance payouts: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...pports-cutting-coverage-for-flood-prone-homes

It's interesting that this might be the first category 3 to hit the US in 12 years given how bad Irene was up here in the northeast. Just shows that wind isn't everything in terms of impact.

120 mph winds now. This will be tragic.
