And it looks like the storm is intensifying and should send some better swell to the West Coast of Florida, better than they are predicting at 1 and 1/2 ft at 10 seconds. Man if that thing hit here my whole house and business would be 12 Feet Under

From the Galveston webcam page - "Over the past three years, the city has been bringing in sand to widen the beaches between 10th and 61st Streets - as much as 150 feet in places - modeled after similar "beach nourishment projects" in Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Daytona Beach. In the summer, you can rent beach umbrellas and buy concessions."

I have some potential bad news for them about their sand replenishment...

Category 4 now. In 1900 a category 4 storm hit Galveston and killed 6,000 people.

When I was 21 a category 4 hit my hometown in FL. My family is/was in the hotel business.

The concrete deck and swimming pool of my uncle's hotel heaved up and was cracked in half. The hotel was never rebuilt. Now their is a patch of grass where it used to stand.

My parents hotel wasn't hit quite as hard but I remember that the doors on the second floor units were broken open by the waves and the appliances were pulled away from walls by the force of the water as it washed through the rooms.

    That was Opal.
