Just checked the surfline cams/report. Hatteras is 8-12 feet and fair to good. Watched doh sets break about 50 yards past the Avon pier. Nags head is around 8 feet and very good conditions. Damn! Stuck in meetings all day, otherwise I'd be burning some vacation time and heading south.
YOU'RE stuck?!?! I'm literally stuck... out on Sandy Hook with flood waters making this place an island!
I feel your agony Matty! I am chained up too!!! It is going to be good all day today....maybe until Wednesday and I am "being responsible" and "making good decisions"... LB stay safe!
Just spent 2 hours checking it. Went to the end of Jeanette's pier it was easy double overhead ++. South side of the pier had a channel, the tough part would have been the shorebreak...it looked deadly if ill timed. The pier was actually shaking (it's cement). I took some pics, but probably wouldn't do it justice. Nobody surfing that I saw, my window has shut I'm a little heartbroken I didn't surf. Gotta pick up the kids at 1. Oh well, probably still be big tomorrow.
no long surf the wash and only have a few times dude to the fact that the folly beach death barrels are the size of lifted f350s, and the beach has turned into bedrock from the pure power aka the follymar the belmar of the south. south carolina wasnt south enough so i went futher south, i would go all the way to the keys but there are no waves. Antarctica is my ultimate to take over some countries claim on it and claim it in the name of the new confederate states...i guess ill get a group and will go after chiles claim because they dont have the best military. ever herd of the nazi bases under the ice? were going to have confederate ironclads and solar powered cotton farms/grow rooms maintained by contracted sea lions.
It is not firing down there haha. Just got off the phone with my friend who lives down. Wayyy too much water moving around still
Yeah, I just got out of a meeting and checked it again -report is saying it's too much for the bars to handle and there are 15 foot faces out there.
http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/avon-pier-virginia---outer-banks_5231/ they upgraded it to triple over head??/yeah right !!!
Two guys are trying to make it out now on the S side. Edit: First guy got about 3/4 out then some bombs rolled in, lost sight of him after that. Other guy didn't even get half way out before he bailed and went back in.
go watch the avon pier cam - it looks to be breaking 75 -100 yards off the end of the pier (although its hard to tell)
Looked really unruly on the cams. I feel like Hatteras cams are deceptive when its breaking on the outer bars -its always bigger than it looks on TV!
Grady Kenner from Vb got out at Avalon on the outer bar. Here's a picture from Instagram. Don't know how he got out or how successful the rest of the session was but I guess to say you did it is cool too. If I had a big enough board, maybe I would have tried if I had been there. Tomorrow down there will be fun. And I will be there.
Micky McCarthy was taking photos...Here's Noah Snyder on a bomb and what he called "set waves" from Hatteras, and high tide at avon pier
Talked to my buddy, big and unruly. Got one nice right. Waiting for next set rogue 18 footer broke way out in front of him. Bailed board, leash snapped. See ya... Total sketch getting back in. Noah and boys ski assist.
