I'm headed up to Hatteras sometime next week and was wondering what kind of gear I should bring. I've been having trouble getting a good read on how cold the water is. I have seen temperatures that range from 48 up to 59. Does anyone know what it really is?

Bring it all. In the summer/fall I've worn trunks at Rodanthe and a full suit up in Duck. And, I was neither under or over suited at either place. The upwelling that can occur there overnight will give your gonads a wakeup call.

It gets dang cold in the summer when it's off shore. better to have it and not use it, than freeze.
