Im heading to the OBX with a few buddies for the week of thanksgiving. We plan on camping out the night before we check into our house. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a campground and any surf spots that aren't filled with locals. I don't exactly think 5 cars full of people showing up to a crowded local spot would be welcomed in any way. Thanks, Nick
Well, rackrat, Nick, you should prob start with an intro threade... Whatcha ride, where ya live, any pics of your woman, can she cooke, do you love Jesus, do you know how to properly attach your leash to your surfing board? I have stayed at the KOA down there years ago, it was cool
Dude, five car loads of people? Then rent a house in Corolla. They makey deal with you this time of year. Don't camp. It's November and you'll get chilly. Plus, you'll be a target for all the Dare County dope fiends. There go your Traveler's Cheques. As for the surf. No problem, brah. Town(Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head) have plenty of sandbars to go around. Lots of close-to-shore bars serving up them bowls. So, just randomly check places and you'll find plenty room. At this time of year there may be four or five spots that will even draw a small(relatively) crowd. North swells or solid days staying in TOWN is fine. On South's or small-to-flat days head over the bridge to The Island. Avalon Pier, Nags Head Pier, Jenette's Pier, Kitten Hawk Pier - use these as your checking vantage point. Hey stay away from 1st St. in KDH, that place is off limits. If you do camp you'll probably be in the Buxton Area. Watch out for backward rednecks like Brett Barely, who will eventually ax you to vote for him in some surf internet contest. Buxton sucks. Yeah, the waves can fire, but the area generally sucks unless you have plenty of drugs and live there. You will feel like an outsider down there. If you dig loneliness and nature and weather - and have drugs - you'll dig the Buxton area. But there ain't no good pizza down there. Watch out for weird dudes in Avon at the Food Lion. Yeah, it's a lion that is into selling groceries. And any OBX'er who want to detail New Jersey...go ahead big fella. Hell, I'll draw you a map.
Yes-! I agree with all the above. Specially a intro threads- cause we don't know you and want to be friends! Koa is a good bet- I don't think the others would be open. Maybe the state/fed parks. Stayed there once- wasnt too bad but no hot shower Also- if anyone would like to know about the jersey spots- there is one you only really need to know about: #belmar
I dunno man, I'm thinking a 6th car is needed, bring more people and you'll be welcomed with open arms
What about the Ginerbread house? "Islands Best Pizza" ... I love buxton... and frisco... and hatteras... its all those spots in town that suck...
Well, that's because you have lots o' drugs. Or you may be an alien who was sent to Hatteras Village to intermix. They do a lot of inbreeding down there. The whole Outer Banks is one of the coolest places to sit around, do nothing and get high. And, nah, dude Jennett's Pier is so choice. Dune hangs out here - with his sister. I'm going to marry his sister someday. Make her an honest woman. Like, Little House on the Prairie style. Actually, now that I tink of it, eh, when I resided there, there was no crowds anywhere from November to March. Well, except on holidays when all the Vagina Beach dudes come shootin-on-down. "Dude, 1st Street is, like, waist-high, S-Curves is going to be double-overhead !!!!!"
We packed 25 people into a house in corolla for 5 days. It cost like $45 each. It was epic I think the house was "Endless Summer"

Only been there once but it was a memorable experience. I still think I have it worse over here...our Wal Mart looks like that "People of Wal Mart" website, every freaking day.
