This whole thing sucks. First off being poor with no real prospects of being anything but in my life the idea of being rich enough to buy a huge ocean front home is not even a dream. But assuming that his father, through hard work, good decisions and smart investments was able to give his family a beautiful summer house on the beach and to have the beach directly in front over run, not only by surfers but others that leave the beach a mess I can imagine being tempted to try and shut it down to anyone but neighbors and friends. That said I think it sucks and it has always been a problem in those areas. It's as simple as this, if tax dollars have been spent to protect your homes from the ocean, then everyone deserves acces to that area. But let's be honest, given the same circumstances how many of us would not have tried the same thing without realizing how pissed off everyone would be because of it. I will happily admit there is nothing better than having access to a surfing spot that is off limits to everyone else, doesn't make it right but it is awesome. Before this kid gets completely thrown under the bus give him a chance to back down and save face. If he doesn't then all bets are off.
Not talking about the videos just a few comments here from some Posts. Just be cautious all I'm saying.
it has a lot to do with religion believe it or not. this kid was brought up being told he is better than all others because of his religion. therefor he wants to block off the street to lesser humans o stinkbug wakeup
I would never try this. He is a rich elitist prick. He has connections with the town board and they will make the decisions. In the meantime, everyone should go to the meeting or contact your legislators. Everything else is wasted time and energy.
If I had my own beachfront, access would be granted through stewardship, and all you fockers that could play nice would be welcomme. Vandalizers, litterbugs, and abandonners would be excommunicated through public shaming...snakes and wave hogs, well, we'd just throw their sh!t in the water.
A Chosen surfer. Great. I walked through Deal beaches one day by myself on a really nice summer day, just to see what was doing with all them super elite Chosen folks. It was mind boggling. Every other guy resembled Borat, and the women under 35-ish were actually really hot. They ALL knew each other too. It was bizarre. There was the smell of serious F-U money in the air, and I really did not belong. It should be illegal for folks like that to just buy up all the real estate and flee after Labor Day for NYC. It's sad...and So Jersey. I hate this God forsaken state.
Its been covered by the local paper and the local TV news station, so word is getting out. Share on Facebook/ Twiiter, Insta, etc.
The history of that town and how it was bought up is definitely messed up. After that, rules were changed to try to prevent many people from using the beach. I think swimming is still illegal except at one beach which included surfing until that was changed like 20 years ago.
i'm dropping or snaking this tool when ever I see him regardless of what happens next. If this goes through i'm going to religiously ride my bike to deal on every swell just to drop in on ruby. In the meantime I signed the petition and i'm going to the meeting.
I guess the problem is they are trying to isolate themselves from the "rabble". The rabble that have been fishing and surfing those beaches for decades. Add to that the idea that they are their own community separate from everyone around them. The sub community (surfing) that they long to be a part of is pretty friggin small and memories are long. I have met random surfers in MD that were visiting from NJ that knew 2/3 of the same people I did from when I lived there. I was paddling out in El Salvador and passed a kid I knew from my home break, he was literally like "what's up dude" as if I was paddling by him in the line up at home. Point is the community is small, money, mansions, walls and close privileged friends that surf now won't be there forever. If I could send him a message I would say, don't burn your bridges kid, if you want to be a part of the surf community you can't start by isolating yourself from the very people your gonna need on your side later.
