shortboard dimensions im 5'7, 135 lbs and im looking for an all round good short board and i want no taller than 5'8 how wide should it be, what dimensions fit me best?
well im goin to puerto rico soon so mainly for that but i just want an allround shortboard from ****y surf to at least a little overhead
check out the agent or super agent from 21-13 surfboards. Im 5'7 140 and ride a 5'10agent but could of gone 5'9. If not 21-13. just go wider at like 18.25-18.75 widthand 2-2.25 thickness. Check out the ..lost stealth. a little pricey though
If you mean standing up on a surfboard, then no. I know a good amount about surfboards/pro tour etc. so I am not ignorant to board design, types, materials and the like. I just choose not to partake. Let you guys take the credit (I've had a subscription to SURFER for 4 years)
Yes, you surf. You are a "surfer" just like the rest of us. Regardless of what you are riding, standing up or laying down, you are most definately a surfer.
beg to differ. I'm a fan of the sponge but I don't call bodyboarders surfers. Waveriders for sure but not surfers.
Your learning curve should be pretty steep... you should already have the timing down. Your major challenge will be paddling into waves without the help of your legs and feet. With that in mind, a little wider in the nose, and a little bit of a relaxed rocker will help. Since you're not looking to get into big surf, a performance fish type board with a typical thruster setup would be what I'd recommend. Something close to: 5'8x11.75x19x14.125x2.125 rocker: 4.5N, 2.25T (You could even go flatter, like 4.25N and 2T) But you have to look around, measure some boards, even outline a few on Aku... see what it is you like, and tweak it from there. Here's a shot of something you'd like along those lines:
Meh, It's whatever. I'm used to the ****talk and hassling that comes along with my choice (not saying coming from you, pumpmaster, just in general). Thanks Zach, I feel the same. I'm still out there on all the best days, and probably out there on days where no one else would even attempt to take a surfboard out. Just remember though, I get hassled for not standing up, but if I reattempted to ride a surfboard, I would most definitely be called a kook. Try to call me out in the water while I bodyboard, things would not be very pleasant. Sorry to get off topic young noob, hope you find what type of board you're looking for, and have fun in PR
Like I said, love the sponge even though I don't do it. I've always felt that most BBer's who call themselves 'surfers' are ashamed to admit they BB. In my experience that BBer's who proclaim they ride are usually the best riders. No cut on spongers, just feel that you should be proud to call yourself one.
hey i got no problems with body surfers, i was just asking a question. i used to bodyboard but i just couldnt stop surfing even if im a kook. surfing is just a lot more exciting to me but ive never bb'd big surf ever.
Yeah I feel you. I had a buddy who said he "surfed" everyday. Told me this for months. He said one day at work that he was "surfing" at my local beach and got cussed out and spit on and called out of the water. Im like, what did you do. He said, nothing. As soon as they got there, a guy spit on them and told them to go home... Finally, five minutes later he tells me, well maybe its because we were on bodyboards... I was like, ohhhhh... Not that its ok, but I have surfed that place a million times and no one has treated me like that, so yeah a lot of people say that there is a big difference, but in reality, some of the best BBers are stand ups too, they just like to lay down. They guy im talking about turned out to rip on a BB when I surfed with him one day, so its all good. He has fun and rips on a BB. Not to mention that at a lot of gnarly reef spots I have been surfing lately, most of the other guys out are on BBs chargin incredibly hard. Shallow reef spots that a lot of stand up guys get scared of, the laydown guys are out making inverted drops and stuff.... So Bodyboarders that take it to the next level, chargin big barrel, making huge drops, paddling out when its TOH... They are surfers in my eyes... For sure.
