A friend of mine has this board that he is interested in selling. I'm interested in finding out if it's real and how much it's worth. I know that "da-cat's" were replicated by another company, but wondered if I should be worried about it with other greg noll boards. My friend said that his uncle gave it to him and he had bought it in the 60's. I didn't measure how tall it is, but it's around 9', has yellow stripes and a green strip. The paint looks to be on top of the board, not under the resin. The green strip looks to be added later, maybe covering a ding. I didn't notice any writing on the board. No numbers and no sigs. It looks to be a 1960ish board based on the type of logo it has. It has several rail dings on the sides. Should this be restored? What do you think it's worth? I might be interested in buying it from him, but want to give him a fair price (if I can afford it). Do you have any thoughts on who might know more about it? Thanks!
Looks pretty sweet, but who knows if it's legit. It very well could be, has your friend mentioned how much he would be asking for it?
He didn't through out a firm number, but thought it was worth around a thousand. I said I had no idea but could very well be, or it might be worth more, or not be based on the condition.
Maybe you should just ask the man himself- check out his and his sons website and write him an email. Great ppl- really friendly, i would think that he would help you out... btw- i have had boards shaped by them and they are simply the best! The website: http://www.nollsurfboards.com/ Contact info: http://www.nollsurfboards.com/contactus.html a sweet blog- interesting: http://blog.nollsurfboards.com/ I would go right to the source....
What a beautiful Noll. If the board was under my roof, it would be on a wall - I hope that you are thinking the same.
Got a coco beach custom that was my dads. its an 8'5 which he says was a shortboard when he was surfing it. In great, great shape. only weighs about 35 lbs.... It has the sweetest paisley print topside. I'd never sell it, but out of curiosity, wonder what it might be worth. Its not on a wall because I surf it a few times a year when its tiny and I'm jonesing. I pull a sweet fake five about half a foot from the nose....
Let us know what info you end up coming up with...if he's planning on selling it and your not going to buy it from him, I would be interested in taking it off his hands.
From what I've been told, its realistically worth about 2-300 bucks in that condition. However I think if he put it on Ebay or C-list, he could probably get 600+ I know he was hoping it was worth 800-1000 because he is trying to get a set of track rims for his car. I told him that he should put it up for sale on one of those two places and see if he could get that much, but if not, not to sell if for 2-300, it's worth more than that sentimentality i think.
Just out of curiousity, did some shops in OC, MD tell you that it was worth $200-300? I had a pretty nice Lightning Bolt last year (not signed by Lopez, but vintage '80s and in good shape) and was told $150-$200. I ended up getting $400 for it on CL.
