MB was replenished a couple of years ago. It actually turned it into the spot you know and love, full of hollow waves. Replenishment will be good in spots. People don't realize it. Loch Arbor hasn't been replenished since the early 90's or something like that. Whens the last time you saw a hollow wave there?
Talked to one of the workers last night... according to him, in about two weeks they expect to have 60,000 cubic yards of sand pumped at that beach, then move their pipes to the next beach north. It will take a long time before it comes back... but hopefully it will. Since Sandy, it had been very good... best I've seen since I moved there in '94.
But the fact remains that we won't know until after a couple of storms. Long Branch and MB are two of the most popular surfing spots right now. Both have faced heavy replenishment in the past few years.
Aaggghhh! People in charge of us are ignorant. The world is f@cked with this just being a highlight of total stupidity. Waahh
Do you think that building dunes would have a different effect on the creating more sustainable beaches rather than pumping in sand to build a beach? Or is there not enough room to build a proper dune? Have heard quite a bit of talk about dunes lately. The dune in front of my friends house in LI is absolutely massive and certainly wasn't nearly as big when I was a younger
I think the jetty in Allenhurst NJ has worked the best. Even though all the Cabanas got washed away the sand in that area is still the same after "sandy". A long backwards "L" construction.
Dredging is starting down here too...it's already mucking up the break. Hopefully a quick spell of hurricane season will restore the order...it was working really well this year.
You really don't know the history of the beach fill projects. MB and Lb had some awesome breaks before sand replenishment started in the mid 90s. I don't know if you lived here or surfed then but the beach fill pretty much destroyed them for many many years. If you think 7 Presidents broke good compared to pre beach fill I'm sorry you missed it when it was actually a real wave. Yes some are breaking good now again but it literally took a 100 year storm to reverse what the ACOE did. These breaks will be buried once again and many unsurfable for YEARS to come When they came through and filled Asbury to Manasquan the same thing happened. Some spots did start to break after several storms but many were ruined for good. If you never surfed the South side of OG pier for instance. It used to break from in front of the pier right to the corner where the boardwalk turns. They filled the sand almost to the end of the pier and the entire spot became dry sand. Also- loch Arbour never experienced beach filling. It has always been a more mellow wave anyway Beach fill is truly a waste of taxpayer money and ruins surfing and fishing after it comes through Don't even get me started on the jetty nothing which is a completely other fiasco.
It took Sandy to return it to what it once was. It's been **** for over 10 years. It breaks like it used to now because of the worst storm in 100 years. Personally I don't want a storm like sandy again, but the run of the mill nor Easters and storms we get won't bring back these spots It was fun while it lasted.
each one of us in charge of ourselves. you are the master of your own destiny. i'm a 35 year LB local, and I hated what happened to the breaks around here after the fill, but then again some good waves appeared after the fill that were never there before. glass half full Matty, otherwise move.
