Have u noticed anything abnormal this year to cause the spike in shark numbers?

Here up in Jerz this spring we had an abnormal amount of fish near the beaches and inlets (the fishing was the best Ive seen in my life). I think it was due to an extremely cold winter.

I think people in your area need to stay out of wading waters until the bait fish move on.

I just want to point something out that the conspiracy theorists might jump on....

NO JEWS HAVE BEEN ATTACKED BY SHARKS THIS YEAR.....

If stating that Israel is responsible for the attacks is not a logical factual conclusion based on the evidence that I just provided (which I made up but is probably true), then I blame the media...

I think Wayne sent the sharks. He is trying to make people pray.

the fishing was not good this spring. there's a lot of bait now but the spring striper run and the bluefish run were awful.

I've noticed that there's little to no surf--even less than last year, and no sandbars. I haven't noticed anything else, because I haven't been spending much time at the beach. Due to no surf and no sandbars.:(

Saw a shark feeding on a carcass of something about 100 yds off Monmouth beach yesterday thorough binoc's. Lifeguards cleared the water. Was slightly entertaining, screaming mom's chaos and fear, crowd of spectators lined up, meanwhile the shark was already eating lunch...Haven't been fishing a lot but I definitely saw bunker in the surf numerous times with stripers or blues or both making them nervous.

ur from nj right.the bluefish season was excellent,i caught atleast 3 every session.stripers on the other hand,i have not caught 1 this season.i caught about 12 baby sand sharks while fishing for stripers.im not too familiar with sandsharks but I did look it up on google and see they grow 10.5 ft long and up to 400 lbs,and have teeth like a mako.so with all these little babies being caught,im sure mama dukes aint far off.

but most of the attacks in nj/sc have been blacktips.we should really fish for those, they are in no danger of going extinct, they are small but have sharp teeth.great whites,if they bite u ur done, dead, fuggeddabout it.
bullsharks eat everything.i have never seen a tiger shark or heard of a tiger in nj.I was watching shark week last night,u see like 12 ft great whites swimming in 3ft water on the shoreline in cape cod.but they are looking for seals.I think for next season im gonna buy that red white and blue American pride hyperflex 5/4.i don't know if sharks are colorblind, but a black wetsuit kinda makes u a target and all my suits are black

As far as the fishing season this year- I would have to agree with Ihatelongboards - the fishing in this area of nj (Belmar to squan) has been the worst that I can remember in years. Although I have not been entirely paying 100% attention this year. But I think I could count on one hand the number of times where I saw big pods of bait with fish under in the morning. I pretty much check it every morning before work too.

BUT- I have noticed more bait in the water in the last two weeks. Even this morning and yesterday. Last night a full sized bunker jumped out of the water 5 ft in front of me (then I was reminded of gruvi and sardines lol) plus lots of Dolphins in the morning.

That being said- I'm wondering if the harsh winter messed up the bass run. So my theory is that there is a lot of bunker out there (since bass are not eating them) and the Sharks found out- told thier friends- and they all came to party.

Idk- maybe the bass run just missed out local beaches- and Monmouth beach was going off?? I have spoken to a capt friend of mine and he said that the only consistent action has been in the raritian this year- which is usually the first place the bass start to show up before the run - like months ago.. So idk. Also after Sandy the bass runs have not been what they use to be too...

Can't we just get shark hunter out there or something- to keep the Sharks off the beaches? Where is that guy?

Or maybe the Sharks feed on the bass- and since there's not as many bass...
