Hey guys, a friend of mine is coming in town in a week and wants to surf with me...but I only have one wetsuit. I'm in the Wilmington area and I can't find anywhere to rent a suit. Any ideas of where I can find one? Thanks.

    wetsuit question

i am currently surfing in a short spring suit....the water is over 60 degrees. you can buy one for a little more than you can rent one and will have it for future use. the prices are good now due to the fact the window of having to have one is closing further every day!

I bet no one will be wearing booties after today. I think the temp outdoors will be in the 70's for the rest of the week and the water temp is already 61.

Makey- Check out the scuba diving shops, i rented one from there years ago. Chances are you'll end up with a 'vintage' neon one, but hey- its better than freezing you ass off....

there's always a wimp or two out there wearing full winter gear in 60 degree water. i don't understand why someone would wear more rubber when it's not really necessary. the less rubber the better if you ask me, i hate having to move extra weight when paddling.

generally, i surf fullsuit with boots in 50-57 degree water, just fullsuit in 58-65, halfsuit in 66-75, and just boardshorts in 75+.

that sounds like me too, ridehigh!! No booties or gloves needed now.
the water is 61-62 degrees and its going to feel great on Wed and Thurs. (throughout the weekend i think. The only reason i will be wearing my fullsuit tomorrow is because i havent bought a springsuit in about 4 years. Probably stop by village tomorrow or thurs to get one though.

I personally like to be warm. Nice and Warm. Toasty Warm. Really warm.
I do not find my suit nor accessories to be too cumbersome.

As posted before, the dive shops are probably the best bet. And you could probably buy a suit for what you will spend renting one.

    Good surf to everyone

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the advice. I've been looking on craigslist and ebay...but someone told me about Sam's Club-They have shorty 3/2 wetsuits for 30 bucks brand new. I got my full suit there last fall and it is awesome. Hope to see you guys out there this weekend-should be really nice! :)

Hey dude, I just went to Sams club tonight and the spring suit was only 30 bucks...BUT....it was a "sea doo" brand "wetsuit." Seemed kinda thin to me-more like a thick rashguard type thing. I bought one anyways just cuz the guy there said that it doesn't matter if you use their products-even get a rip or tear in them-and return them...it might sound bad-but with that type of salesman you can't go wrong! :) I'll let my friend try it out this weekend-if it's too cold-we'll probably just rent one from a dive shop. Good luck dude!
