High Surf Advisory

Up here in Myrtle....when I was young and it was blowing hard...we'd get one of our parents to drive us 3 miles north or so....then we would drift surf down and get out and walk back to the house. If it was cold we'd hit a hotel hot tub on the way down. Most of the time, by the time we got out, we'd stay out. Makes for a better time when you aren't worn out from the current...and just go with the flow.

 

i went out today did the same thing you did lol ..but the only place on the island that is protected from the east wind is in sea pines but it picks up only half the swell but while the rest of the beach was crazy wind it was only 5knt wind but 2 foot waves saw a few dolphins and then a shark.. i was kinda supprised about the shark and ive never surfed around port royal sound after ive caught 300 tigers there.

 

yeah we got some big ass tigers, but ive been in the water since i was 5 here so i wouldnt really worry about sharks. i was surfing forest beach but scouted out sea pines and saw the shark there it was only a fin but i know what a shark fin and dolphin fin looks like and does in the water.

 

ive seen that once they were in waist deep water just thrashing like crazy. im not sure about blacks as you said they're around all year and wouldn't make sense about the migration. ive been seeing weird **** in the water since this swell picked up tho. its amazing though with the huge tigers and bulls around here that will eat anything that moves there has never been a attack. but most people are the victims of jellys and stingrays ...i got stung 12 times in one day, the waves were to good lol. go off island to around the sandbars and youll see millions of cannon ball jelly blooms its insane, keeps all the sharks well fed.

 

Had a real windy/sloppy day up in mass...lots of water moving, sideshore current, etc...got lots of duck diving practice and the few rides I managed to put together were well worth the work, surprisingly long considering the conditions...my .02 on the advisory, setting and pulling lobster gear on a 43' boat in 4-6 foot windswell can be a pain in the arse, especially in you're working in the trough, and can get sketchy...certainly agree the NWS gets carried away w/ the advisories, but they're probly for ppl who boat for leisure and would be stupid enough to go out without the "advice".
