Anyone hitting the beach on Sunday morning for the predicted clean swell on holden and carolina beach area? how do you think it'll be. I gotta catch some waves and the closest to me.. CONWAY!, is south end of nc. ~~~~WHAT is up with the stingrays? Has anyone noticed the massive amount of stingray schools running up and down the coast? Is it normal for this time of year or all the time? Whats going on. I'm getting pretty freaked out from them bumping into me.
Anythings better anythings better than the flats we've been getting.. the forecast is calling for a little increase in swell in that area. Take it while its there, check it out.. Good Luck. Got To: Forecasts;Select your location. Read the graphs. Use Your best judgement.
Was at MBSP saturday and every time i was in the lineup i would see at least one stingray. By the way, the waves sucked.
The past two times I've surfed in the morning recently I've seen at least 10 cabbage head jellyfish. The first time I wasn't aware they don't sting so it kind of ruined my morning because of paranoia, but it still creeps me out when they bump into your legs when you're just sitting on your board. Hope everybody got some waves this morning
yeah those cabbage looking jellyfish scared me my first time cause i didnt know they dont sting. But the waves at WB didnt last that long if you didnt get in the morning then you missed out if you havent been out in a long time.
for some reason the ocean life has been kinda creepy these past couple weeks. two days ago a friend and i were surfing around 7 a.m.. my friend kept thinking he was seeing blood, and finally he saw a fin underneath the surface of the water pass through the blood about 3 yards away from us.(we got out for a bit,) and today a stingray darted right by my board.
Skates do not have venomous barbs like stingrays although some skates do have pointed thorns. Also stingrays give birth to live young where skates lay eggs. I really dont worry about them at all, i think its pretty cool when they are active and you can see them during your morning surf. I would definately rather "see" them than not see them. Plus, shuffle your feet while you are walking in the water, this will keep you from stepping on a stingray, hence not getting stung. Just fear the sharks, cannonball jellyfish are harmless.
I was out late yesterday in wrightsville and saw a decent sized stingray a few feet from me. freaked me out. my friend said that that morning he saw a bunch of cabbage heads but i havent seen any... must mean its almost summer what bugs me more than jellyfish and stuff is all the damn tourist boogie boarders and waders that get in your way... must have dodged dozens yesterday.
yeah those tourists and boogie boarders bother me. i just use them as target practice if they're in the surf zones for my spray.
yeah man i heard that theres so many stingarays around because there arent that many sharkks any more to eat them, i guess thats a good thing tho
i like winter also since the tourists arent out. but you always have to put all that rubber on thats one thing i hate about the winter while surfing, I'm just glad to get out of the suit for this year at least.
Have you tried 64th Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach? It breaks there sometimes and might be closer to you than NC. The problem is you would have to deal with 501 traffic to get there. Or you could take 544 to Surfside. 13th Ave S. is a popular spot. Pawleys always has bigger surf than Myrtle Beach. That could be an option for you.
Shuffling my feet makes them double back or come toward your feet. From experience! Had a couple bump me that way. Just be cool, everyhtings okay.
it has been freaky in the water the other day i was surfing in the afternoon and i already saw tons of stingrays but one nailed me in the side of the leg. so i came out for a little bit. thouggh they be gone by now
