They see you before you see them.
Not sure, but near the end of the vid there appeared to be fewer surfers in the water. One guy paddling in, and a number with their boards on the sand at the water's edge. Word got out, maybe?

No, but been to Pismo, Shell, and Avila beaches quite a few time in the late 70s while attending Cal Poly. Didn't surf then.

Holy crap. Looked like a lot of the surfers were on longboards/fun boards. Using that as a point of reference, I figure that would put that thing in the 8-9 foot range. Sweet tap-dancing Jesus that's a big fish!

Actually Grover Beach - you can't drive out on Pismo, but it's all the same stretch of sand. I know a few people who surf Pismo regularly, never seen a shark. The sharks of course do see you, but DGAF about humans 99.9% of the time. Florida is worst in terms of likelihood of getting bit I think. The last person killed up near Pismo was a woman swimming with seals, which is just lunacy (may she rest in peace).

This is one of those ignorance is bliss things.

Was surfing some knee - thigh high dribble yesterday on the LB and a guy on the beach caught like 6-7 black tips not far from where I was at. I believe he got like a 6 footer before I paddled out. They DGAF about us, like you said. I never saw one when I was surfing.
