When do I need to start busting these out? I was out during Gonzalo and the day after and I could start to feel the briskness. Also am curious as to what thickness I should aim for on all of the said apparel? I'm going to break down and make a purchase this weekend. I plan on trying to get out for a few more sessions and a little bit during the winter season but probably won't be doing much as I snowboard a lot. Thanks doodes
You need too busy them out when you start feeling cold and it interferes with your surfing. What you need depends on when you ate going to surf. By January in Jersey you need at least 5/4 suit with a good and I always used 7mm mitts and boots. But in November and March, that might feel like overkill. Comfort=$$.
The 4/3 thin boots and thin gloves will be going on really soon. I'd rather be a little too warm than a little too cold.
i saw a guy during the gonzalo swell rocking a hooded suit w/ boots. i didn't know whether to laugh or cry. kooks like that used to be an exclusively west coast problem, but the infection is spreading faster & faster every year.
I sadly had a suit with a hood on but its because its a xcel 4/3 and I wear it into December anyway.. ahhhhhhhhhhh love looking kooky
between the air & water temps that weekend, no way you weren't overheating in that. hell, i was too warm in my 3/2 friday morning.
Pretty sure I saw you in the line up on 11th st jetty that weekend. And I saw a bunch of dudes rocking booties that weekend most of them did have new york plates and tribal tattoes though...
Gonzalo was def warm, I just wore a springsuit and was fine all day. Everyone else I saw were in full suits. I did see one or two guys out in just shorts.
i was wading last night fishing up to my waist in boardies. water is till above 60. will prob cool off after the blow this weekend.
It all boils down to how cold you are and how bad the water temp affect you . Since you said you snowboard mostly in the winter and surf a few times outa the winter I would just get 5 mil boots and gloves. They will keep you warm enough for a while but not like 7mil's would and be over kill for this time of year. I like the Drylocks from Xcel never had a issue with them
already in a 6/5 with 7 mil lobster mitts and boots. i gets real cold. i def was that kook. i dont have the cash flow to accessorize this year. get the thickies and by the time the water warms up they should start leaking, and it evens out. but i wear a vest with a hood with even my 4/3, which decided to leak this year and became irrelevant.
totally agree... friday i went out in trunks and a long sleeve rash guard but was a little cold. saturday i wore a springy suit and sunday i went to a 3/2 for the first time this year... enjoying the warm water while it's still here. compared to early march the waters piss warm
