read about surfer's ear, google it or use wikipedia and I think you will want to keep the hood for a couple more weeks...
Here's a little ditty about a first hand account of surfer's ear. Warning: pics and video may be considered "gross" to some...
How many people on this board have had surfers ear? 30 years of winter surfing for me and so far no hearing loss, just wondering how common this is, never heard of it before the last few years.
so, there's hope! more doctors are turning to the micro-chisel method! Yes, that's right, chisel in your ear... I'll keep the hood. Don't ever want to pay that price...
20 years of surfing & i've managed to avoid it thus far, but i've only been surfing in seriously cold water conditions for the past 10 or so. my father is undergoing the micro-chisel procedure in the fall, after we get back from the maldives.
i was diagnosed with it about 5 years ago. Symptoms - persistent ear infections, partical loss of hearing in one or both ears for days on end. It is the MOST ANNOYING thing imaginable. Dr. says I'm 80% to closure and i have had the surgery scheduled twice and then cancelled after being symptom free for a month or two. Ive managed to stay mostly sympton free for a year by wearing ear plugs every session when my hood is off. today i wore the hood and roasted! Nobody else in the lineup had their hood up today. Fun waves around 3 p.m. btw
What's everyone wearing in the OBX now. i'm going down next week and am wondering if i can take out the 3/2
4/3 no hood your good to go..not bad at all. in md that is. saw a guy out no gloves or hood and he said he was not that bad. i didn't shed the gloves just yet
