How big have you gone?

in general, Double O (10-12ft range) is about as big as most spots can handle on the east coast and that is being generous. Some of the rare big wave spots (ie. Ruggles), can go bigger.

For example, OBX can get really big, but it starts breaking way on the outside and just gets maxed out for the most part. And a lot of areas just close out with a large g swells.

naw brah lemme tell ya my story.
so my boy T00BZ was heading up to jerz to visit tha inlaws, and he saw this gnarly storm on the charts. so, he alerted all of the FORCE to the possibility of gnar gnar BARRELZ, but there were no takers cause we didnt wanna surf with no Yankee dweebs when we could score at mase instead. so my boy went up alone and brought a photog along. got some sick pits and some massive boosts.
and then there was a freak cleaup that broke out past the end of the jetty, and only T00BZ was in posish. he just stroked in and just busted outta this thing. looks like waimea bay.
just shows how fnarly the boyz from THE FORCE are.

i think this is one of the better ones of OC on that day, but its at 87th street and its usually a little smaller up there then it is compared to the lower streets

biggest wave i've ever seen was at k58 in baja california. pretty well-known spot but it was just me and a childhood friend of mine from nj. the paddle out was ridiculous. if you didn't time it between sets correctly you are looking at some major underwater time. we got out there and were like holy crap this is super heavy, the swell was building like small mountains underneath us. we probably should've had someone towing us into these suckers. i tried for one, definitely over 10 ft, maybe as much as 13 ft , and then i was in freefall for like 4 whole seconds and ate it as i tried to stick it. so basically the biggest wave i've ever seen became the worst wipeout i've ever experienced haha. i thought i was going to drown but i was able to paddle a bit more, hold onto my board and catch the white water outta there.

biggest wave i ever caught was probably 8-10 ft at black's beach in la jolla, california. that wave blows though because it will break while the face is still swelling up. definitely a bombie though i was flying super fast but just like that it was over and i pulled out.

most fun wave i ever caught was at broken heads, northern NSW, australia... just south of byron bay and north of ballina. probably a 4-5 footer that just hollowed out for me and produced a nice 50 yd ride at least. beautiful uncrowded beach too

All are great photos.... The biggest I have gone is Delray Beach , FL on October 31st, 1991... Checked the surf before class and it was 4-6 ft, came back to check after lunch and it was 15 ft+. It was first time I had to time the sets to get out (did it with dry hair though) and I was riding a 6'2" Natural Art. The waves were washing away cars on A1A. Once I was out there I was afraid to come in!!! Only caught one wave.

I don't think people understand the size of waves there talking about, I seriously don't think an average mid-atlantic surfer/bodyboarder could make the paddle out to a 15+ foot wave. And if I'm if wrong about this which I could be, why don't I see you guys in surfline.

biggest waves I've seen in person, was definitely Puerto Escondido. That place gets massive.

Here a medium size one from the trip:

That same big Sunset session, I got dragged across the reef and had my board demolished (that I just bought about 2 hours prior).

ive been to k58s a bunch of times, thats la fonda right? caught it OK there, but normally found k38 or salsipuedes to be a lot better for the same swell/wind. every time ive seen it get big it just closes out or washes thru kind of disorganized..

the south peak at blacks is HEAVY!! that place is my fav san diego spot, aside from all the naked dudes on the north side
