Bouys show about 48 where I'm at but the surf is closer to 40 right now thanks to the cold ass blast from up north. Went the other day in a good 4/3 and 5mm boots and gloves and 5mm hood and I was frozen in about an hour or so.
I've been sportin 5mil rip curl boots this season. Needed a new pair in the fail, had some old oneil 7mil that have seen better days and retired them. Unfort the shop I went to only had 5mils in my size and I wanted to surf that day. For the most part, I've been surprised how well these round toe 5mil boots have been working. I can get like 2 hours into a session before it really starts becoming a problem with numb toes/feet. I'm gonna try and make it through this season and get some 7mils next year. Just hop in the car for 10 mins when your feet go numb, crank the heat, and then head back out!
Buoys in the Delaware bay reading 30 degrees :O. 20 miles offshore, the buoy reads 35... So, in other words, effing cold. I'm not sure I recall seeing the offshore buoy that cold before.
was out yesterday with my son, Hampton NH. Air temp: 18 Water temp: 38 Offshore gusts to 30mph OH and clean FANTASTIC DAY!! Wow, what great waves we had. Had to tromp through 10ft (literally) snow drifts to get in, but wow. sure was fun.
Hey man there is a thread to post stories like this on. It could use yours. No kidding. It would fit right in.
used a 6/5/4 in NH yesterday, booties, gloves. 18 degree air temp, 38 water temp, strong offshore gusts above 25 mph. honestly we were fine, I wasn't really that cold at all (hands get a bit cold, and face, but who cares). My son had ice forming on his hood visor the entire time If you dress for it, it is not a problem at all, best day of the year for me!
