How Sponging Came about

On the afternoon of July 7, 1971, the bodyboard was born. Tom Morey, a surfboard builder with a background in math and engineering, had left his California surfboard business to relax and design on the island of Hawaii. On that momentous day, staring out at the surf without a board to ride, Morey borrowed an electric carving knife and a household iron, whittled some scrap polyethylene foam into a small rectangular mat and covered it with newspaper. He found his invention (first dubbed S.N.A.K.E. -- side, navel, arm, knee, elbow) easy to produce and even easier to navigate. In 1973, he trademarked the name Morey Boogie for $10 and scrounged together enough money to place a quarter-page ad in Surfing magazine.

 

hmmm whats up

so ive seen two historys of boogie boarding. i find it interesting to learn a little bit each day. so anyways robbwillow im 34, and just picked up the sport to have fun and stay in shape and im not gonna be able to golf all winter as my funds are low, hence why i bought a surfboard. im here on the forums to gain knowledge and maybe find someone to surf with and teach me something, and or chief up. i dont know if i mislead ya but if i did i apologize. im just a simple person who wants to go out to the buoys but have nobody to go with or watch me and as a kook thats not the safest thing. today it was like a mt. of water in fronty of me about 30 ft out i felt like i was climbing when i was paddling just the coolest feeling, i rode 2 waves today on my feet but couldnt let go the rail. all in all it was productive. i plan on going back to coquina tomorrow aroun 11 if your around ill put the green bird on your shoulder. im just chill...............
