Depends where you are located. Here in NJ......5/4/3 for me right now. I don't see the water warming up too much in the next 2 weeks. But, if you got some fat on you or it's a mild day out, you could get away with a 4/3.

p.s. I was out in a 4/3 yesterday and froze my ass off after 45 minutes.

Here in OC a 3:2 has limited use, as in October/November and May. A 4:3 is a much better bet. I have used a 4:3 all year; however, I break out the 6:4 when it's windy and below 40 degree air.

CM-Surf, or maybe you are just a clueless young buck who doesn't know any better. Warmer is better. try 5/4/3 and you won't look back.

i saw a kid out in delmarva wearing a 3/2...no hood, no gloves, about a week and a half ago when the air was high 60's. I commented on the state of his sanity, and he claimed to be "ok". Needless to say he got out after about 30 min.

It just all depends on the air/water temp. At least be smart and check both before you head out. I don't have anything thicker than a 3/2 but if the water temp is 55 and the air temp is 70+ I'm all good. The water temp off delmar has come up 3 degree's in a few day's just gotta see if the weather holds.

Mike a 3/2 is generally best for New Jersey in May and October, and maybe a little bit around those months. Guys that are wearing a 3/2 now, are freezing their butts off.

it is one thing to have balls,....but i would think that those who are able to go through a whole winter in no more then a 4/3,...and can truly say that they are comfortable the whole time,...those persons are rare. We all have different body chemistry, and I would suspect that is what accounts for those who are able to pull off using only a 4/3 the whole winter.

But even then, I would think that this is dangerous to some extent. Everyone should try and maintain their core body temps as best as possible. For the vast majority of persons a 4/3 is not going to provide your body with the long term warmth that it needs to function at a high level, during the winter months.

I have never needed any more then a 5/3 in the waters off of the Delmarva, but once the water goes below 40 degrees, I would say that even a 5/3 is not enough, even though that is all I have ever used. I think I may just get a 6/5/4 next year for the first time. Much better to be nice and warm when you are trying to have some fun I think.
