    just out of curiousity, when people say "your beach might not be able to hold it" what does that mean exactly, becuase where i was we saw anywhere from head high to double over head waves, some just closed out while others were perfect.

    with these long period swells, many breaks, and especially east coast, have trouble. Sometimes the swell dissipates on the continental shelf off the coast. Some breaks will be big, but just walled out with close outs. Other breaks, like point break type waves, will offer perfect, large surf. Generally the longer the period, the more variability you will see from break to break.
