figures i head back home to NJ and while i'm gone TS blanca forms, hurricane carlos appears, and a fourth tropical disturbance in the eastern pacific is expected to become a depression in the next day or two. will this produce any significant swell in the SD area? are we going to see a SW swell train out of this? more importantly, what areas will favor this type of swell because it's not looking too great at the pier here
The Point in Newport Beach is proabaly the best spot that takes a SE Hurricane storm. This spot only goes off on a SE Hurricane swell, the BEST!!!! but it needs some size
With the lack of swell we've been having for the past few weeks, I would imagine any surfer would push back non surfing plans for this swell. Hype or not, it will be at least shoulder high. And warm. So nice.... But your right, you should go to Las Vegas. One less head in the water.
Sorry to hear about that. I live in OB too and surf th pier/cliffs primarily. The first three days of the swell were super fun on the cliffs. REALLY inconsistent, but the sneaker sets would wrap through to the summer reefs. Then, yesterday, I surfed ol' Peskys. I got it Alone in the middle of the day. The tide was chunky and weird, but there were rouge sets that were going off. It wa weired though. The cliffs were empty cause everyone had driven north to OC/North SD. So, while South SD didnt get to DOH or anything. There was plenty of HH to a few feet OH waves all over the cliffs. I surf the pier this morning and it was back down to 3-5 feet. Crowded as hell, but beautiful little fun peaks rolling through. It was nice to be a goofy footer this past week. Anyway, you missed some fun waves, but nothing to write home about. Definately a nice surprise in the middle of July. But it was no Monster Swell down in SD. The big boy swells of October each year usually fire off with much more power than this one did. It was coming from 185-190 or something crazy steep too. So anyway, it was fun, but not epic.
