I seriously doubt that Betty wants anything more or less to do with a crane than I do, other than perhaps the serious cash it produces... Yes, it is truck mounted (Ford LNT 8000) and has seen more hurricane swells across the SE than most cranes... Speaking of which, the cams do not look so good this morning...

Sorta like that here, with some spots in VB getting up to 13 inches. Lots of fallen trees and downed power lines, flooded streets and abandoned cars.
Our two sons couldn't get home from work Sat night. One got to his Grandmother's house, and the other slept overnight at the restaurant where he works. Our street flooded to about 3 feet.
Still, none of that as bad as what folks experienced further south.

Couldn't get to my place, but had some friends, "Batten Down the hatches." 15 plus inches of rain. Looking at the cams it's hard to say what's up with the beach and sandbars. I'll be there Friday to do sand reconne...

The sand is all rearranged around here, so I gotta learn the layout all over again now, I had it wired too. It's like losing all of your progress in a long video game that you had all of the cheat codes and special powers for and having to start back at level 1.

I read that Matthew's center passed only 26 miles away from the Cape, and that there should now be a bit of a delay in the GOES-R mission.

Power went back on today! So niiiiiiiiiice. The sight of four tree cutting trucks and two power trucks on the driveway was a sight to behold today.ni ran out and burst into tears and begged them not to leave after they fixed it until they waited to see of my lights actually turned on, they did wait and they did turn on.

I had heard of people whose lights did not turn on cuz the truck thought it was fixed, but it was not.

Waitress at breakfast said her tree caught fire from a live wire.

Power and the lack thereof was a major subject of discussion at all the local diners. No we Do not have a Waffle House.

Any news on how Valhalla made out?

We has no damage but lost a lot of trees....so much better than the forecast had been. So grateful to have the house....

Glad you're all good DSUP. You never know who is going to take the brunt of the damage with these things. When Irene hit up in this area a number of years ago, it was Vermont that took the biggest hit to life and property, and not the coast, mostly from flooding.

That new inlet looks enticing, although it doesn't make much of a difference surf-wise until the channel is deepened right?

    1. No doubt, there will be a huge cat fight over what is to be done...

    2. Wondering how it will affect an old favored break...

    3. Regardless, might as well name it for now, suggestions?

Hopefully they gave you a written replacement cost on those trees (per species/caliber), because they are considered assets (either a loss for taxes and/or an insurance claim); moreover, some can even add $30k to property value...

o Betty, so good to hear that you made it through in fairly good shape. Being without electric power sucks. Ice and A/c are essential in Florida. We went a week without after Wilma. I now have two small Honda generators that have yet to even be run. And, yeah, busted tree debris everywhere.

Thanks for asking aboot me. We are fine. Barely any wind or rain. I've seen thunderstorms much worse than the weather we experienced here. Got some surf out of it though.

This storm could have been much worse for so many. We should all be thankful that it turned out as it did.

Here's Frankie with a report on the status im Florida:
