HW 12 (Fri 7/4)

As of 7am we still have power and internet. Tide out front looks to be about 1-2 feet deep. HW 12 most definitely has a decent amount of water on it at dead low tide. I expect that as the winds back down but the tide starts to fill in again we will probably see another rise. It was impossible to sleep from 130 till about 345 or 4. The yellow building in the pic is the Dairy Queen in north Avon. I'll post later after checking around and seeing what the word is.

FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA DOT: THIS IS A VERY EARLY ASSESSMENT FROM OUR DIVISION 1 ENGINEER: SEVERAL FEET OF WATER STILL ON NC 12 FROM THE SOUND ON HATTERAS ISLAND, PLUS SEVERAL FEET OF SAND ALONG THE PEA ISLAND STRETCH OF THE HIGHWAY. WE WON'T KNOW THE EXTENT OF ANY DAMAGE FOR SURE UNTIL THE WATER RESIDES. THE FLOODING IS FROM WATER BEING PUSHED DOWN THE SOUND AND THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE LOW LYING AREA; IT IS NOT OCEAN OVER WASH. SURVEYS WILL NEED TO CONDUCTED ON THE BONNER BRIDGE AND NC12 WILL ALSO NEED TO BE CLEARED BEFORE THE BRIDGE OPENS TO TRAFFIC. WATER IS RISING OVER HWY 64 AT NAGS HEAD AND MANTEO. NCDOT HAS CLOSED DOWN THIS SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY. FROM THE DARE COUNTY

Waters started to subside some which is good, but it looks like some damage at the little bridge north of Rodanthe, and Ive heard possibly another break in the stretch between Frisco and Hatteras.

 

I think they are calling off the dive inspection on the bridge today b/c of current and swell. Surf this am at the 3rd was maybe head high with a few hollow ones. Nothing to be too bummed about missing.
