I doesn't matter how many times I hear this song or watch Thicker Than Water, I always get goosebumps when it gets to this part. I think it is a great musical expression of surfing. If a song could sound like surfing feels, this would be the one... If that makes any sense at all to you dudes and dudettes... Anyways, enjoy... I cannot confirm nor deny these allegations. Glad you enjoyed. If you don't have the movie, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It's a short film, but very well done.
Can I hijack your thread a bit? I was going to start a new thread on this, but seeing we're both talking about the same movie, it might fit better here regardless. I'm specifically referring to the part with that ugly green board. So I've been thinking that while a lot of us spend a lot of time worrying about having the "right" board, it occurs to me watching that segment that you're either a good surfer or you aren't. What I mean is that a good surfer will kill on a **** board. A mediocre surfer will be mediocre no matter what you put under his/her feet. That's not to say that a good board isn't important. But I wonder if perhaps we worry too much about it. Watching Go Proe videos of myself surfing, I realize that I am truly just an average surfer. Maybe my board holds me back, but more likely, I'm just average. A good surfer will make anything work. That's what that clip shows me. When you see those guys just killing it on that ridiculous board, it makes you realize- well, makes me realize- that the problem isn't my board.
If you YouTube Thicker Than Water, it's at like the 12:00 mark or so, the ugly green board with a single fin and no leashe that Kelly and co. are ripping on.
You're not hijacking, it fits the topic perfectly. I agree 100%. That clip is a perfect example of that. It made me wanna surf that board, or one just like it.
While their talent helps them ride that board well, It also helps to have a solid wave to work with like that too.
My son and I watched this video about a month ago after a really good day of surfing. You can see where the board holds them back; where they want to hit a move, but the board just doesn't quite react like they want it to. But still, they're ripping. Sometimes when I'm wrestling over two inches on my next board, I think of that clip and just laugh at myself.
Let's see if this works (no music, though):
Toonce...I think U got somethin in that a good surfer knows how to dial in regardless, i.e. Wave, break, period, wind, boart, sand reconne, tiddde, etc
That' how I feel about this tune...
