Heard an interview with Dylan once about this song; he can't even account for where the lyrics came from or how he wrote it. I guess even he considers it one of his better compositions.
It's life and life only. Or, Ezra pound and ts Eliot, fighting in the captain's tower. Or, stayin' up for days in the Chelsea hotel, writing "sad-eyed lady of the lowlands" for you. You're gonna have to serve somebody.
Musically, and some can present the view that politically, he helped change the world back in the 60s. He is my generation; I like a lot of his music, but not all, as with any musician.
