I was wondering where all the Wavesport Foamies were coming from at CB. Went to Costco, 8 footers $99.00. Bought a Morey Boogie Mach 9TR for my wife for 25 bucks. Saw same bodyboard for 99 at a local surf shop. I support local as much as possible, but hard to pass up a good deal. OP: daughter looks like a champ!
I too am a proud dad of a foamer. I got my son started at 5 years old. He is now 6 and doing quite well. Here are a few pics of him. The board is a 6 ft soft tech by Tom Carrol I think. Who knew that the gulf was actually good for something. Its was 1-2 ft and going off yesterday, by his standards anyway. I honestly teared up on his first wave he caught. He rode it through the trough and into the shorebreak, then stepped off. I was amazed. The flex fins are great for learners for sure. I rode it once and it was pretty fun actually. Way to go OP, I love them too. What better gift can you give a child than the gift of surf!
My wife took a surf lesson in Costa Rica while I was on a tour, she had started out doing really well on a foam board so they switched her to a fiberglass board....she ended up with a black eye and 7 stitches from the board gently hitting her face. In Costa Rica people assumed it was a surf accident, when we got home, people called me an asshole assuming it was me who did that.
Good stuff man, little guy has good form, those waters look familiar too (Pinellas County by chance?)
You got it, Sunset beach, our home break! If any of you want to get your young ones started here is a great idea. I got a new 6'9 cannibal for bigger surf. I had it hanging from the ceiling along the wall in the living room. I started taking it down and putting my son on it when he as 2. I had the fins out so I would slide it around on the carpet while he tried to stand on it. After about 3 short sessions he was hooked. Every evening when I came home from work he would point up to the board and say surf. It got to where he was wearing me out every night. Needless to say I got quite a few knee dings on the board before it ever even got wet. The end result? When I pushed him into his first wave at 5 years old, he rode it all the way in and wanted more. We have had about 6 sessions in ever increasing surf up to shoulder high on him! This goes along with a LOT of swimming in the pool to keep his strength up. I also push him from one end of the pool to the other while he stands on the foamy. Great training. Keep your kids surfing!
I'm sure we have. I have been surfing there since 1976. I am currently riding a rich price transformer II and my son has the 6 ft soft tech. Say hi if you see us! Thats pretty good that you can recognize our break from those 2 pics. Maybe the crappy surf? haha. Have a great day.
HA, can't mistake those waves! Small world, born and raised in Dunedin, surfed anywhere from 880 (CLW) all the way down to Venice Jetty. Sunset is usually where it's at though
