I am 5'11 and 160 lbs. Ive been surfing for about 4 years so Im ready to move on to a short board. Can anyone recommend dimensions for me and possibly a couple good boards. (been looking at the Rusty Kerrosover. Any Suggestions are welcome
Yeah stay out of the water, have your mom buy you an inflatable sup so I can burst your bubble a little more.
Get ready for some abuse coming here for board advice. Might want to give up some info like where you live, how much you get to hit it, what you are coming off of and how old you are. Keyboard wanking and dreaming does not count. Do you surf anywhere near a decent surf shop?
Dont buy a new board.. every kook wants their ONE board that is going to take them from ****ty waist high days all the way to pipeline in fashion looking good. Buy ditry ****ty cheap shortboards till YOU figure out what you need then ask a local shaper to work with the dimensions you give him. You might find that you need more than just one shortboard. It might take 5-6 boards to really dial in what you need (for that new board).
i already have two boards. a 6'3 fish and a 8'0 long board. Im definitely buying it used I just need some advice about short boards but for ocean city and nc surf.
Try different shapes.. sell them on craigslist if you dont like them.. it is personal preference. Im honestly giving you the best advice.. anyone else who tells you what to buy is just telling you what they want. Every BODY is different no matter how much you weigh and how tall your are you are different. Go surf and stop asking questions or ill start trashing you, you grommet.
Rusty makes a great board but they have gotten too expensive as of late... especially when you are not so sure what you want. the best advice I could give is try and find something on craigs list that is close to what you are looking for in size. low ball your offers and you're gonna get a board in the size range you need to test and you'll save some cash.
this is actually the best advice. u could also just go to a local shaper and ask him to shape you something. I dont know how much it is there but usually here in maui u can get a shortboard professionally made for you (it'll have your name on it and everything!) for around 450-500$.
Yeah please dont buy from the big boys if you can. Support you local shaper.. its cheaper for you.. and im gonna let you in on a lil secret.. most shapers just clone the big names anyways.
WHy I warn people from buying a new expensive board is it has more to do with psychology. I see a lot of people who buy new boards.. they get attached too it, its their baby, so when they should be progressing and riding a different board for the conditions they ride theyre brand new bright and shiney board with their name on it.. If you got 2-3 different shapes in your car your more likely to hone in your quiver. You probably only really need 3 shortboards. 1 for groveling (wide tail).. 1 for nice turns (not as wide tail)... 1 for hollow waves (pintail) plus 1 log for the shin high days And Im not even over simplifying it BTW Im no local pro.. I am still dialing in my boards all the time.. and you might find that its a never ending process and that is where your local shaper can really help you. Make friends with him and before you know it is calling you with knew ideas he has for you.
Im no pro either i wish. I still buy all my stuff just like most everybody else. Or make it, thats fun too. For now i have my quiver right where i want it. Would like to eventually add a big wave board to it but for now im set. I think its almost time to swap out my shortboard for something new tho, its been a year. About time to switch it up. Although i just got my fish from he glasser monday.
