Bingo or from 40 feet outside on a leashless 30 pound Bing retro hipster log. Honestly I don't care what anyone rides but my experience is that the vast majority of people on logs and SUPs these days lack both skill and manners. Self awareness too. Just watch them paddle out and around the crowd of people in the lineup after a wave directly back to first in line at the peak REPEATEDLY. But But But how dare you call them out cuz cuz cuz their entitled. I could drag out a log and do that too but I'd never want to be THAT GUY. Don't be THAT GUY!!!
I will do this from time to time at my break. maybe 7 guys out who do not really know how to catch waves all that great and do not even realize what I am doing to them is both mean and wrong. But hey, their ignorance is my bliss. I like to catch a lot of waves and lets face it... I am entitled, but do have skill and manners. I love to hoot for others I may not even know and will gladly gift a wave to someone who may need it. Sharing is caring, but catching more waves is better. However this is not my approach if the spot is widely used and people are ripping. I'm not gonna be "that guy" at the popular spots... You dont make many friends that way
solid threade lol didn't read the article, read the comments tho and I agree the hate is strong in that group. I think sups are cool.not for surfing, but for cruising down a lake or something.i can understand if theyr at an already crowded spot, things can only get worse. and longboards are cool too.havnt rode one in a longtime, current motor vehicle can not handle her size.not a fan of boardracks,i normally throw 2 or 3 boards in the trunk into the backseat, sometimes il leave the nose hanging out the window if I have more than 3.i cant imagine how u haul a sup, that takes 4wd lol.
I agree with those that day it's a people problem not a board problem. There are infact guys who only LB/SUP and actually know what they're doing. I can respect that. I do also agree that MOST who purely LB/SUP use those boards as a crutch. I see allot of guys on LBs with a stink bug stance around here. No flow or style. Those are the guys who give the few who know what they're doing a bad name. Also, I ride basically everything. LB, more modern SB, single fin SB, bonzer. I like experiencing diffrent things. I too at one point thought guys riding SBs in less than say chest high were kooks. The dreaded hop, I hate it. BUT after riding the SB allot in the past few years, I learned that you can indeed ride one in say thigh high waves with out doing the dreaded hop. Like pump said, gotta know how to generate speed. Deffinitly got to choose the right boards for the right waves, and there are deffinitly days were a SB just won't do it. But if you know what your doing, you don't need to hop on a SB in small waves. SBs aren't just for bigger waves, just like LBs aren't just for small days. Just my .02
I don't even care if someone rides with the dreaded stink bug stance. Its the guys who use a bunch of extra foam as a way to be wave hogs. Some of the worst offenders are quite competent at riding a wave.
But then most shortboarders ride what theyre mommy buys them ,and then shoulder hop cuz they cant catch anything anyway and the stinkbug stance was perfected by shortboarders .i have boards from 5'6" to 9'6" and ride them all and i love hogging the outside set waves that the sbers wouldnt catch anyway.you ride tinee boards cuz yu cant control a big one and it shows
The ugliest surfing I ever see is shortboard guys, and most of the time it's on small to mid sized waves. But I think that's just because... at least around here... it's a numbers thing. Most people ride shortboards, and most people don't have great style. It's hard to screw up just trimming down the line on a log, so on the ugly scale, it's relatively less ugly than the shortboard guys trying to do too much with their bodies, and not enough with their boards... arms swinging wide, hopping and pinwheeling and flapping their bodies, and the board never being put on a rail. Or guys riding off the tail so hard there's no rail in the water at all, and they're just tick-tacking around on the wave face. It's the rare talent in the water that can ride a small wave with style and make it look like fun to me. IMO, style is in short supply, and I think a lot of it is due to the pressure of popular culture... what surfing "should be" in people's minds. Personally... I have no interest in "ripping the sh!t out of a 1 foot wave." It doesn't feel right to me doing it, and it doesn't impress me seeing it done by the average Joe. But if that's what people enjoy... if that's what anyone as an individual feels satisfying, that's what they should do, and everyone else (like me) can go screw.
that pretty much sums it up. you can ride any board in pretty much any condition if you take the time to really perfect it.
I've been hit a few times by blue crabs. Stone crabs though man... I've caught them while crabbing for blues and when you pull up a pot, all you have left is blue crab pieces and one big fat stone crab...
No **** screwby, not sure if we have those up hurr. The crusher is no joke, so much pressure. The shredder just catches stuff, crusher makes prey lament.
