^^^Yea... much more likely to get bounced off the bottom. I'd say the deepest I've ever been sucked down is about 10'.
Don't really open my eyes while getting worked, but I have gotten drilled a few times where I was deep and trying to get to the surface and opened my eyes to "see the light". I was probably never that deep but at times it felt like it. other times, when you have a large (not Mavericks Large but big enough that you aren't duck diving) set approaching...you turn your board sideways and stand up on it and dive under the breaking wave and swim deep below the turbulence and "up" the backside of it all. I like to open my eyes during those to see where I am at relative to the mayhem. From the bottom of that scenario to the top of the passing wave is pretty deep as you swim to the surface (and hope one your leash does not snap or drag you back and two you don't get sucked over)
