its always a good idea to eat something with a lot of sugar (simple carbs) like 30 min before u paddle out. it boosts your glucose levels and gives u instant energy aka sugar rush. i kno sugar has been given a bad rap bc of all the fatasses in america but as long as u use up the sugar with subsequent exercise u can benefit greatly in the short term.
on the other hand when uve been out for 4 hours and are dead tired, u need to rely on the complex carbs (ie pastas, whole grains) that u gorged on the night before. BALANCE whatever kind of protein and fats u like in there as well. diet is very important in sports performance.

Awesome advice. Growing up in a house of fatties (everyone except me) I never learned how to eat well and tend to fast for most of the day and than binge at dinner. My wife asks me what I ate over the course of the day and she gives a big sigh when I say "I didn't eat yet". She thinks I'm like a camel only with food instead of water. I will say that I feel faster and lighter surfing on an empty stomach but that could very well be in my mind and not based on reality.

Thanks brother,It seems like the last few weeks have been the best of the year so I can't wait to get back out there.Looking at the breaks,I feel like alot of sand has moved around for the better.Everytime I go down there its going off.Just got to tell you it really sucks going down the road and seeing boards on top of cars knowing ya I can't go.Good news is I just bought a new board.Heal up man, heal up.
