awww someone has a stick up their heiney. at 44 im in as good shape as most little smartasses half my age and be willing to bet i could paddle longer farther and faster than you. if i could just find a way to be more cynical.
its always a good idea to eat something with a lot of sugar (simple carbs) like 30 min before u paddle out. it boosts your glucose levels and gives u instant energy aka sugar rush. i kno sugar has been given a bad rap bc of all the fatasses in america but as long as u use up the sugar with subsequent exercise u can benefit greatly in the short term. on the other hand when uve been out for 4 hours and are dead tired, u need to rely on the complex carbs (ie pastas, whole grains) that u gorged on the night before. BALANCE whatever kind of protein and fats u like in there as well. diet is very important in sports performance.
Awesome advice. Growing up in a house of fatties (everyone except me) I never learned how to eat well and tend to fast for most of the day and than binge at dinner. My wife asks me what I ate over the course of the day and she gives a big sigh when I say "I didn't eat yet". She thinks I'm like a camel only with food instead of water. I will say that I feel faster and lighter surfing on an empty stomach but that could very well be in my mind and not based on reality.
